Hi all, my name is Christine, also known as Tinkerbell of Winter on here and JediXtine on theforce.net forums. I am almost 31 years old and have been struggling with my weight for years, as many of us have. I feel like the queen of yoyo dieting at times, I am currently at 209, getting down to 190 as recently as just this past April. Now I am motivated to get back on track, to finally accomplish my goal weight of 150. I have accomplished a few things this year I never thought I would do. I got down under 200, that was pretty amazing, and I ran a 9.3 mile road race, the Boilermaker. I also got my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. My next goal is to run the Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon at Virginia Beach on my birthday this year, which is September 2nd, and I have a longer term goal of running the WDW marathon in 2009. I would definitely want to be at my goal weight by then! Looking back I have been taking baby steps to get to where I want to be, but I feel that I can accomplish these goals, it wasn't too long ago that I weighed 245 lbs and was so out of shape I would get out of breath going up the stairs. That was really a low point in my life. I have a picture taped to my other computer of what I looked like at 245, Christmas in 2005 and I look absolutely horrid. I never want to look like that again. I plan to journal here, to keep myself going and keep myself motivated about losing weight. I also enjoy reading other people's stories as it is a tremendous motivating factor to see other people's success. Looking forward to our journey, we can all do this together, and I will be gladly joining team WISH for the 2009 Marathon at Disney!

Well I am doing decent so far, I have been doing the exercise portion, but the diet needs a little work. Yesterday I ran/walked about 4.5 miles (I had to make myself walk because I had too much caffeine and it was still in my system) and this morning I ran 4 miles at a decent pace. I did have pizza last night at work and some cookies which was not such a good choice, but I am going to start working on the diet more intensely on Monday, after I get some healthy groceries in the house. Feeling good from the run and now it's time to get some sleep after working the night shift.

Hi Christine,

I'm not sure if you wanted comments or not, but I thought I would pop in to say hi. Congratulations on your many accomplishments this year, especially the BSN. I am one too. Good Luck on your next race, and I am sure you will be at goal by the time you run the WDW race.

Take care,
Beth

Comments are always welcome! They are always a nice motivator :)

Today is going ok, although I did take myself out for breakfast after work this morning, I was starving. I only ate half of it though, there was way too much to eat sensibly. I just got back from a 4+ mile run, feeling pretty good. I just need to keep with this running business and the weight will come off, it did before anyway. I have decided that I would really like to be at least under 170 by the time I go on vacation in Feburary, and if I could possibly make it to my goal weight of 150 that would be awesome. I've also applied for a different shift at work, 11am-11pm, which would really be a dream shift, I wouldn't lose two days for every night I work (I currently work 7pm-7am). I'm really hoping for the job, it would be in the Emergency Room instead of ICU where I work currently, but I am ready for a change, once i've been in the same place for about three years I get antsy for a change. So anyway the diet is still going so so but the exercise is back on track.

Hi Christine,

Welcome to WISH! You have accomplished a lot in the past year! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

I hope that you are able to change to the shift that you want at work.:goodvibes

Have a great Tuesday!:cool1:

Well good news! I changed my Disney reservations to the first week in December, so now I have an earlier goal than before, which actually makes it easier to focus on achieving. So instead of six months it's now three months and two weeks! I'd like to lose 25-30 lbs by then, if I stay focused I can accomplish it. The diet is still going so-so, but I have been doing my exercise like I am supposed to, I ran 3 miles today, yesterday was a rest day and the three days previous I ran 4 miles each day. Next week is going to be tough though, I work 6 12's in a row and I really need to keep up with the running because my 1/2 marathon is in three weeks. Still plugging along!

Well I have officially been up over 24 hours now, I have been busy since I am getting ready for a garage sale this weekend, but bedtime is going to have to be shortly so that I can get up bright and early and continue with the garage sale preparations. Today is going to be a rest day, obviously. The diet is still going so so but I got groceries today so now I have some healthy food in the house.

Hi there,

Just popping in. I hope you get the job. I've done CCU, ICU, and ER. If you have issues with boredom, ER would be a good fit. Good Luck.

Congrats on the runs. That is amazing. Don't kill yourself during your long stretch of work though. You need rest too.

I hope the garage sale brought in lots of $$ for your WDW trip in December.

Take care,
Beth

Belated Welcome to WISH, Christine!

Hope you've had a good weekend!

Congrats on the BSN!

Tomorrow I need to get back on track, misbehaved on the diet this weekend due to the community fest and having to eat on the go, since I was committed to my porch sale all weekend. I was happy to just be rid of stuff. I made about $80, that will pay for a few meals at Disney :) I ended up getting a new job, but not the ER one, I took a job teaching at the Community College that I got my associate's degree from. I am looking forward to having a fairly normal schedule again, and that will certianly help with my metabolism and making time for running. One of the main problems that I have with working nights is that there is too much time for "grazing" which is not good. I do better with set mealtimes and a workout either before or after work. Well I look forward to sharing more about my journey. I also changed my vacation to the first part of January, so I think i'll actually be in WDW on marathon weekend. I think we may have to sign up for the family fun run 5K, since all the other races are full.

Congratulations on your new job. Will you be teaching clinicals? I hear you about the nightshift grazing. I have done much better on a day schedule. Congrats on the $ from the garage sale. I hear you about getting rid of the extra stuff. My DH and DD are horders. Anything I toss has to be done in secret.

Have a great week.
Beth

I have been away from my journal as I have been extremely busy with the new job, and still finishing up the old one but I wanted to share my latest accomplishment!

I made it through the Rock and Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA and I was quite pleased with my time, 2:53:15 for 13.1 miles. I ran almost the entire thing, walking only at the rudee inlet bridge and at a couple of water stops while I was drinking. I was really excited about my time, just happy to finish really. It was my birthday and they announced my name when it was time for my corral to start. I met a fellow Wisher there, thank goodness she had her lime green shirt on, I think her screen name is gettinthin. Now I have to start working on the diet though, that has not been going so great.

CONGRATULATIONS CHRISTINE!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Hi Christine,

You did an amazing job with the race. You should be very proud of yourself. :thumbsup2

The food portion will come. Right now you have the new job to focus on. Once that is more routine, you'll find the diet easier.

Take care,
Beth

Monday is the day to get back on track, I am all recovered from the 1/2 marathon and I am going to get back on track with the diet and exercise program. I'll be sure to update here! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Just got back from a three mile run with my daughter, she did pretty well on the run. We are running a 5 K this weekend, her first, and actually my first (i've never done a 5K, only longer distances). I was sore though, I haven't had time to run since the 1/2 marathon and got in a funk being busy with work and such, but I feel great now! I should not have eaten before the run though, that really made things worse. So I have been trying to make better food choices, but it's that ride home from work when i'm starving that I need to abstain from poor food choices (like the one I made tonight). I think i'm going to keep a box of granola bars in the car and then when I am starving I can eat one of them instead of stopping at McDonalds. Well I'm feeling better after the run, feeling like i'll be able to get back on track easily.

I did much better today, I didn't stop anywhere for food, and the granola bar trick worked quite well so that took care of my hunger on the way home from work and kept me from stopping somewhere. So that strategy worked. I took a break from running today, my achilles tendon hurt like crazy last night and I was on my feet literally all day so I had to take a break. Tomorrow i'm doing another three miles and I need to remember to weigh myself in the morning.

The diet is slowly improving and I ran 3+ miles tonight, doing a 5K on Saturday morning. I have set a goal for myself to lose 25 lbs by ski season. I consider ski season to start in mid December, so I have 10 weeks, which puts that at a healthy 2.5 pounds per week. I really need to start hitting the gym again, leaving work a little earlier on some days and lifting weights. Next week I am going to set a goal of making it to the gym for weightlifting at least two days a week, as well as some cardio there as well as at home. I'd like to lose 25 pounds by ski season and 30 pounds by Disney.

HI tinkerbell of winter! Thanks for posting in my journal! I'm at 200lbs myself and doing this 5K almost seems imposible for me! I can barely run 1 minute!!!

I think it's great that you did the Rock 'n Roll and you have set the goal to do the marathon in 2009!

Good luck w/ your weight loss and training!!! :thumbsup2

Yesterday we did the 5K, my daughter walked more than she should have since her best friend ended up doing the run and she of course had to walk with her. My time wasn't the best, but it was a rough course, up almost every hill in town, so I actually ended up walking a lot more than I usually would. Today we went on a 6 mile hike, so the weekend wasn't a total loss :) still working on that diet though! This week I am going to start going to the YMCA at least 2-3 times this week after work.

Today was a hot one, wow! I did a run at school, it was only 2 miles but it was one hard trail run. I came in last, but oh well, there were only five women running and the other four are all in better shape than me so I didn't feel too bad. My time was the best i've had in a while though, 20:30 for two miles, I was pretty happy with that. I can't wait for my Garmin to come so I can do some more productive training.
