We got the Tinkerbell movie yesterday, and my 5 year old daughter LOVED it, my 2 year old son was even giggling at certain parts. The parts I saw were very sweet, I think most little girls will enjoy it. We missed the opening of Pixie Hollow at WDW by 2 weeks, but hopefully next time we will get to see it. DD is going to be Tinkerbell for Halloween and DS will be Peter Pan, so this movie came out just in time.

That's wonderful that your children enjoyed it so much. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really want to. Tinkerbell is one of my favorite Disney characters.:tinker:

We watched the movie last night and thought it was really, really good! I was very impressed with it. :thumbsup2

I watched it with my daughter last night, fully expecting to despise it. However, I have to admit that I found it entertaining. I should also note that the movie looks AMAZING on Blu-Ray. It even made my wife back away from her (absurd) assertion that Blu-Ray looks on better than DVD.

I absolutely despise any direct to DVD releases Disney puts out. What a horrible cheapening of the brand.

Of course a kid isn't going to realize or understand that and I wouldn't expect them to, but I'm certainly never going to buy one.

From what I understand, the Disney Channel may be showing this movie on Thanksgiving weekend. I have no idea why they'd do this before Xmas, but that's the word from another podcast.

That is why I'm not spending any $$$ on this and just firing up the DVR in a month.

Missed the opening of Pixie Hollow by two days with my girls. I was told by cast members earlier in the week that there would be a soft opening on Friday, but it never happened. We stopped in a couple of times during the day and nothing but princesses. It was our last day before going home. I guess we have to wait till next year.

There are 4 new Tinkerbell movies coming out in the next few years, should be interesting to see where Disney takes this.

There's a promo for the 2nd TinkerBell movie on the DVD. It looks fascinating - they are really taking some cues from the book series.

The one strong gut instinct I took away from seeing that promo....

"Huh. Another completely new costume look for Tink that will sell through the Disney Stores like hotcakes!"

We got it from Netflix and watched it this weekend. It was pretty good (not spectacular), but my DD mentioned that the original Pixie Hollow fairies from the 2 well-written books by Gail Carson Levine (Rani & friends) were missing. She thought those characters are more interesting than the newer ones they made up for the movie (and some later books)...

For anyone looking to buy the movie, you can get it with a "free" tinkerbell tote at Walmart. My dd(4) has a thing for purses and bags right now so this was a no brainer for me.

The book characters were in the original movie, but were removed for the story rewrite. I can honestly understand a couple of possibilities as to why. Don't know for sure, but I can speculate. They did keep 3 of the original characters - Vidia, Terrance, and Queen Clarion.

A couple of them were very hard to explain in a movie context, with such a short time to tell a story. It would be really hard to quickly explain Rani not having her wings, what Prilla's talent is, etc. Also, their look and costume design was done for an illustration art style and would be incredibly difficult to animate inexpensively. I think changing their look would have been less well received than creating new fairies (who's names are found in passing reference in the original books....)
