Pete,

Because I am a music teacher - I wanted to let you know the drum on the drum roll is pronounced TIMpani. (accent the first syllable.)

You probably know it better by the kettle drum. It is the big one that is similar to a bass drum sound but you can change the pitch of a timpani. A large orchestra could have as many as 5 kettle drums - all tuned to a different pitch.

Most small symphonic bands or orchestras have two.

That is your music lesson for the week. Now we take you back to your regularly scheduled podcat. ;) Love the sound effects by the way!

Thanks elemusing! Good to know.

I heard that also, but I was too lazy to write. :rotfl2: *I'm a music teacher also.

HA! I was wondering if anyone would say something. Not a music teacher, but a former "band geek"....ok, so I was Drum Major.;)

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Not a music teacher either, just a percussionist for a local brass band and previously the only percussionist in the school orchestra.

Thanks for stating that. :goodvibes I had to say it the right way in my car like 10 times to erase the wrong way from my head. I can't believe they didn't know what a timpani was, but I guess not everyone is a music person.

From what I hear about the DISH boards, maybe those are KIMpani... ;)

Kudos for posting! I was thinking the same thing as I was a band geek too! I was thinking to myself, how can he not know that?! Then I had to step back and remember that no everyone is a band geek like me ... but I'm glad there are a few others out there :rotfl:
