timeshare tours in exchange for discount tickets

I’m reminded of a Beavis and Butthead episode:

“I took a bullet for Uncle Sam and if you don’t sign these papers you’re going to take a bullet from me!”

Of course that was an Army recruiter not a time share salesman.

Recruiters are NOT that way

While Disney may be more reputable concerning timeshare, my advice to anyone thinking about timeshares from others is to stay as far away as possible. Their high pressure sales pitches are REALLY annoying, every time you go on vacation they want to provide some incentive for you to attend yet ANOTHER sales pitch and they are virtually IMPOSSIBLE to resell or get rid of when you no longer want it. They have ZERO resale value. Timeshare is NOT a real estate investment no matter what they claim and you end up with an ongoing liability (i.e. annual maintenance fees, etc.) even if you no longer care to go on vacation. There is also another whole scam industry that has grown up around offering to resell your timeshare. They simply ask for an upfront fee and then after a few weeks/months they tell you they couldn't find a buyer.

Timeshares USED to be a reasonable way to vacation, but the vast majority of the industry has been taken over by fast-talking con artists.

That reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Lyle Lanley cons the town into buying a monorail.

....and if you are selling a desirable/quality/cost effective product, there would be NO need for high pressure sales tactics. Anyone trying to sell ANYTHING that way should a reason to run the other way.

I hope the on-site Disney tour won't be so aggressive or long-winded. We're going to listen to the DVC schpeel at Sarasota Springs before catching an Uber to HHN next week. The 'gift' is three more FPs per person, but of course, that late in the game, the only additional passes available will be silly things that don't need them. But we had a free afternoon. Now if they won't let me hop into an Uber at 3pm when we need to be at Uni for the scareactor dining ressie, I'll tell them they can keep their passes.

The Disney tour I did was not high pressure and they were very friendly. We didn't buy but they were still professional, courteous and no one harassed us once we said no.

I would rather go through a police interrogation than do a timeshare presentation. Once they have you in a room, they won't let you go. You will be bombarded by sales people trying to justify the purchase (even if you can't afford it) for you until you give in. They will take your entire day from you. The only 1 hour presentation is where you buy in immediately.
Don't you have ten days to rescind on the contract? For all timeshares? Just a thought. Buy it, get out in one hour, rescind in in ten days while you are at home. LoL.

The only one that I have actually looked at is the one with Wnydham Bonnet Creek.

^^ Or they probably make u attend another seminar to be sure that is what you want to do....LOL

I have no idea. Never done one. Bought OKW with Disney sight unseen. But I will say from what I see on the net with Wyndham Bonnet Creek, that place don't look too shabby. I do want to stay there at least one night at some point to give it a try.

Disney is not like the rest. They have a product that sales itself. I went to a presentation on the DCL and they gave out some swag and no pressure. Whe touring Aulani they had the room open and let me in. Never asked my name or did a sales pitch.

Disney is a known brand, so I would expect their approach on timeshares is better/different. With any other company, when someone asks about 'timeshares', I tell them to never get involved.

We just did a timeshare stay with Hilton - they gave us a king suite in one of their properties for $99/3 nights in exchange for sitting on the presentation. Just breaking down the numbers, it's a whole lot cheaper for them to give away one of their rooms (among so many they're making tons of money on) for $33 a night than it is for them to get Disney tickets to give away. They might do that for potential customers that are targeted as VIP level based on income and likelihood to buy, but not for us normal folks LOL.

That said, we had gone into it already prepared with our hard "no", so while it was 2 hours out of our day, it was an Epcot day so we were still in the parks within an hour of the world showcase opening :) The only real annoyance (after we said no to our very nice salesman AND the 2nd marketing person who tried to offer us another preview stay for $300 if we could pay for it RIGHT NOW, um no that's my Disney spending money thanks!) was that a salesperson called our room at like 8:30AM on checkout day to try and get us to book another timeshare preview stay. We hadn't rolled out of bed yet so it was just annoying.

We got to the point where we NEVER answered our room phone when on vacation with a timeshare. Whatever 'incentive' they offer is simply a way to get unsuspecting people involved with the whole timeshare racket...........ummmmm NO thanks !!!! FAR easier to just pay for your vacation and go where you want when you want with no other strings attached.

We were finally able to get rid or our timeshare and would never get involved again.

We have done many timeshare presentations over the years, and it has always turned out the way it should. I don't bother with the presentations in Orlando though because we are always on a tight schedule.

I look at the presentations as getting paid for my time...there was one where we sat outside in the Caribbean at our resort's bar and listened to the salesperson, and were "paid" $50 per person per hour tax free. If you think about it that way, its a deal.

I own one timeshare with Disney, and two with Hilton. None were purchased as a result of going to a presentation for the reward. Timeshares are definitely NOT for everyone, and presentations for rewards are NOT for everyone. But timeshares have worked out great for me and my husband.

Only $50 an hour to be tormented by those conniving thieves? I wouldn't do it until the price got up to near $1,000 per hour. My vacation time is too valuable to flush it down the toilet.

It's only a "deal" if your time is worth less than $50/hour. My vacation time is worth more than that to me, especially when it's unlikely to end after one hour...or two. Now, a random rainy Wednesday at home, sure. I've got nothing super important to do, so $50/hr to listen to a salesperson wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. But no way on my vacation. Picking up an extra shift at work is much less stress.

One time..And never again. We were young, had our first son who was like 18 mths old and barely rubbing 2 nickels together. Went on a little mini vacation and they promised theme park tickets we couldn't have afforded on our own. They put our son in a "play room" with a window to the room we were in and went about bombarding us with info for well over the hour they promised. When I got up and said we were leaving and taking our kid they went kind of belligerent on us. I may have went a little mama bear and threatened to call the cops lol. Funny thing was some lady chased us down in the parking lot and gave us the tickets anyways saying she felt bad for the whole situation. But it was not worth the time lost and frustration that basically ruined our day.
Now that was like 13 years ago and in this day and age I would never consider doing that again - either leaving my kid like that or sitting thru one.

We live fairly close to Branson and the large amount of timeshare junkies that work in gas stations, etc will drive you crazy if you don't learn how to say no and keep walking.

I would go to the presentation HOWEVER I would BRING my pillow and blanket.

One thing I do with high pressure. I WALK OUT !!!
