Hi,
Question what exactly is a Timeshare???We plan on traveling to Orlando with another couple and his mother just told us that she has a timeshare in kissimee that she has never used....

Usually it is a townhouse or condo in a regular community neighborhood that is owned by a business that then sells "weeks" to other families for use on their annual vacation. From there in most agreements the family that bought the interest can rent their time to others. Disney has one that is run a bit differently, as instead of buying weeks or days you buy points, and depending on the time of year, size of room and location of the resort nights will cost a different number of points each night. It has been a great deal for us, made it possible for us to visit WDW each year since we purchased.

ahutton description is correct. I'd also like to add that if you care about where you are staying (as in quality and distance from the theme parks) you may want to get more information from your friends mom. Even if you just had the name of the place you could probably do a search on Google and find more information about what type of place it is. We have stayed in Marriott and Worldmark timeshare's while in Orlando but we now own Disney Vacation Club (DVC) and don't want to ever go back to staying off property. (But that's just us):)

We own a T/S in Williamsburg, Va. that we trade through RCI. We have stayed in many different condos in Orlando and Kissimmee and they have all been nice. We love having all that space, a kitchen and washer/dryer, multiple tvs and 2 bathrooms (we have 4 kids.) We recently bought DVC because we love staying on Disney property, but you will probably enjoy the T/S just fine. How many times have you been to WDW? Do you usually stay on or offsite? Do you go back to the room during the day (difficult if you are staying off-site.) Good luck with your decision!

Hi,
Sorry it took so long to get back to your questions, we went to visit family for a few days.....My family has only been to WDW once at Christmas 2003.....This has always been something i really wanted to do even as a child to go to WDW....Now that i went i'm ready to go back....We stayed on site and yes we did go back to the room for a little rest time....The walking was wearing out my five year old, only if he would have sat in a stroller....I really liked staying on site but at the same time it's expensive....So i have never had the chance to know what it's like to be off site....Trying to go back for next year, either in July or December again.....
We are going with another family and their mother has a time share don't know where but it's in Kissimee.....Thought that we could save some money as well....But i also looked at renting a vacation house for the time that we are there....With timeshares you have to go at a certain time right???The only time we can go is those two months that i mention and i think that she has time in May sometime if i heard right.....Thanks for your replies..................

IMHO we own the best timeshare around through the Disney vacation club- we can go anywhere (not just Disney resorts) and we are not locked into any specific week. Rather than purchase a specific week, we have bought points that can be used for any time of the year. We are so happy with this ownership.

We also own DVC. We love it and would not want to own any where but Disney. It is a recent purchase wich made alot of sense since we go to WDW every year. You may want to look into it and see if it is right for you.

Just my two sense.
