Did Wyndham buy RCI? My friend owns at Wyndham and said she received a letter stating something about this. She insists that it's on Disney property. Her sister recently bought at Westgate, so they are now in comparison warfare to what resort is better and want to include me in their discussion which I'm not participating in!

RCI, Wyndham Vacation Resorts, and Worldmark are all owned by Wyndham Worldwide.

The Wyndham resort she's probably referring to is Wyndham Bonnet Creek, which is adjacent to WDW property, and I believe surrounded by Disney property on three sides. But it's not onsite.

You are making me try to remember. As I recall a company call Cendant owned Wyndham and RCI and about 6 years ago made RCI a subsidiary of Wyndham and then there was a spin off of Wyndham (with RCI as a subsidiary) into a separately traded company. I may not be recalling that exactly as it happened.

In other words, as far as I am aware this is not new news. There is a Wyndham near Disney (and it also owns a new golf course) in what is known as the Bonnet Creek area (not near Disney's Bonnet Creek area where Four Season's is building) which is not far from the Carribean Beach Resort. It is not on Disney property. Moreover, the fact there is one there is unrelated to the fact that Wyndham owns RCI.

Did Wyndham buy RCI?
. . . RCI is a subsidiary or Wyndham Worldwide Corp
. . . so, yes, Wyndham does own RCI

She insists that it's on Disney property.
. . . Disney was unable to buy some property due to high cost
. . . it is pretty much in the middle of WDW
. . . the area is now called Bonnet Creek
. . . it has three non-Disney resorts

Her sister recently bought at Westgate
. . . Westgate is an independent timeshare company
. . . they are owned by David A. Siegel, an Orlando area resident
. . . they used to be the largest single-owned timeshare company
. . . but, they are having MAJOR financial troubles
. . . they have sold off several huge properties, including Las Vegas
. . . their bank is still trying to sell off properties
. . . you can buy a timeshare week for $500/week on the resale market
. . . Westgate sells these same weeks for $13,000-$30,000

When my mom bought Wyndham she was told they have a resort that is part of WDW. She insisted that is what the sales person told her and he actually went into detail about transportation to the parks ect.... I believe he probably said we have a WDW property. He really made it sound like it was part of and came with the perks of WDW properties. As we know this is not the case.....

I don't think any Wyndham owner would be surprised by ANYthing a Wyndham timeshare salesman might say. If their lips are moving, they're usually lying.

Wyndham Bonnet Creek is not actually ON Disney property, but it's closer to most parks than many of the Disney resorts, and they DO have bus service to the Disney resorts. But they're not onsite. They don't have EMH, DME, free theme park parking, etc. like the onsite Disney resorts have.

As for the argument, Wyndham is better than Westgate. The company is better, the resorts are better overall and the system is better. Westgate does have some nice resorts though and the fact they often allow pets is a plus to some. Westgate is about as low as it gets in timeshares as a company to deal with.

I think Orange County calls it the "Bonnet Creek Resort Community Development District."
