I have been looking at different hotel sites & found one where we can stay at the Westgate Palace, close to Orlando, for $49 a night for 7 nights as long as we attend the timeshare presentation. This is a really nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite & the price is great. But is it worth it our time?

Thanks,
Lori

There isnt a Westgate Palace, there is Villas, Towers, Town Center and Lakes. I would never advise doing their deal with the presentation. They are just horrible.

Maybe that is also what is known as Westgate Town Center..is it right by the Villas? It is a newer section. I still would never deal with them on a presentation.

I don't know if it is by the villas or not, but if the presentation is as bad as you say it is, it wouldn't be worth it anyways.

Thanks for your help!

Lori,
Westgate has a "reputation" for their high pressure sales. We did it a while ago before we knew much about timeshares and it was rough. I know many others are too but they in particular are hard to "finish" up with.

I would check out some other deals with like Marriott or HIlton. Somewhere that their product sells itself so they are less high pressure.

Was just looking at an ad for Westgate Palace today. It's a high rise that seems to be near Universal, if I remember correctly. (The memory is one of the first things to go, they say.)

Stayed at Westgate Lakes a few years ago and HATED it. Their pitches are some of the most high pressure around!

The address given in the above website for Westgate Palace is 6145 Carrier Dr. Orlando FL 32654. A quick google search for this address shows that it used to be called Sandy Lake Towers. This website shows the same building and same interior shots. A "special" price quoted on the site says "rate good until February 15, 2002."

So it appears to be an existing property that's been taken over by Westgate. We've also had our worst sales tour experiences with Westgate (at W.Lakes & W.Vacation Villas). So I'd skip this one.

You can do better than that. We are going in Sept and have a 2 bedroom at Orange Lake for under $250 for the week. And no presentation involved. www.orangelake.com

Email me at ghawton@meritas.ca if you want to know how you can do it. Gload to help out.

Ah...it does sound like an old property taken over by Westgate, thats why I havent heard of it.

I hope you can see how many people feel about them :-(

Thanks everyone for all of your help! I really appreciate it.

If anyone else has any ideas where to stay in a condo that's pretty inexpensive, please let me know.

Lori

I second hawt1. We stayed at Orange Lake Country Club last year and loved it!

I third hawt1! Use skyauction.com. You can get a 1-3 bdrm at a nice resort for $200-$250 for 7 nights. No timeshare presentations to attend. We loved OLCC too!

ship the timesshare presentation and save money.
Try their "ready, set, go" auctions.

OK, I am trying to famaliarize myself with Skyauction. I do have one question. When you win, I see that you have an extra charge of $32 per night. Is this the only extra charge you have, or will you have to pay taxes on the room or anything else once you check in?

Thanks again!
Lori

That should include all taxes at the resort. There may be phone charges or something like that but...

Not sure when you are looking for but the Ready Set Go auctions are the cheapest for Florida by far....sometimes you just have to be patient and wait for the dates you want though.

If you have questions on specific resorts, let me know.

I think you are looking at auctions that you bid by the night. Look at the ones where you bid by the week. You pay $195 for resort, $15 handling fee and what ever your bid is. I have used them 5 times and never had tp pay any fee to the resort at check- in. There are extras like phone, maid service, etc if you choose to use them.

It looks like the only thing available right now for Ready, Set, Go for the days I need is a 1 bedroom at the Lehigh Resort Club. From the picture, doesn't look like much of a resort. I guess the best thing to do is to check daily for my dates?? And always put the 30 day range in?

Thanks again for your help.

Lori

I agree that Skyauction is the way to go!! Definitely look into the Ready Set Go auctions as opposed to the bid per night auctions. We won our first Skyauction bid and are going to Orange Lake in mid December.

I have a question for seasoned Skyauction bidders...we need a second week during Christmas week. So far, there's no availability in Orlando during that week, but Hawt1 mentioned patience...is it possible that such a busy week could come up on the RSG auctions, or should we make other plans? Has anyone had any luck getting this week or perhaps Easter week?

Thanks for the info!

I've never been at those times, but I was checking daily for my dates during those holidays and they had a lot of last minute deals. I find they post more auctions around holiday times. But the big question is can you wait to last minute to book? I never checked the RSG for holidays so you might luck out and find something with that. You are going to love Orange Lake.
