Do you mean the roommate matching notification thing they do or on check-in day? If you mean at check-in, they instantly put you with the same people in line with you. Like example, for me when I was in line for check-in, the three girls who I was going to room with were several people in head of me (I didn't meet them until I got to the apartment). So, make sure you get to talk to some of the people in line because they might turn out to be your roommates. For the roommate matching notification, they randomly give you someone's phone number and email so you can contact them.

So there is no survey/compatibility type test to answer for the roommate matching, just random pairing up?

I've never tried it, but from what I'm reading everywhere (it also says it on the main site for cps), they just match you up based on age, gender, and check-in date. So, its basically random.

I was wondering because
at the meeting with our college reps
the college rep who went down for Fall 08 and just got back said they had her fill out some sort of compatibility type test. I was wondering about this because from what I was reading I thought it was random also but then the rep said that for her group they filled something out. I guess I will find out June 1st-ish.

When I did Fall 08, you did not fill out a survey or anthing. It was just random. This doesn't help FA people but I remember around the time FA were checking in was around the time Fall got their assignments.

I just did mine. No, you can decide to Op in or out. If you do it, you get randomly paired with someone. I do not remember filling in anything other than the little questions they ask when you accept your offer. You can also request a new roommate and then you both receive an e-mail, are put back in the pool and you get a different roommate but it's all random. Don't know what happens if you want a 8 person apartment and they want a 4 person......or you want chatham they want vista.......hmmmm. but yea, all random!!
Have a Magical Day!!!

This is exactly why when any alum says "this is the way it is" with a grain of salt. So many things change with the program and very few of us make any attempt to keep up with the changes. And even then, it is quite difficult to do. Be sure to always check with an official resource and don't believe anything that we say as fact.

They did do some sort of compatibility thing when they first started the matching program. It just didn't work because the pool of people was so small after grouping them on the basic criteria that they couldn't make reasonable matches. From what I understand, they didn't ask very many questions either. One of them I think was if you were a day or night person. Well, that would make sense on a college campus, but at Disney it doesn't make a difference because of the various work schedules. Night people may get opening shifts and not stay up late. Morning people may get closing shifts and stay up all night after they get home.

Here is just an example that may help you understand this. Say 500 people arrive on a day. Half are males. Half are females. Then half of those are over 21 and the other under.

From 500 people checking in, you really have about 125 potential pairings with each age/sex group.

Then not everyone participates. Let's say only 40% want to be paired. That gives you 50 people.

That is a really small number of people to try to find a good match with using a personality profile. Sure there would probably be a few with a high match, but for the most part, you would only get a small compatibility percentage.

If they only had one arrival date for each program, then the pools would be much larger and they could probably use a profile to some degree. But only having one arrival date would be a total nightmare for those checking in and housing and recruiting.

I'm a campus rep! Lol, anyway the roommate notifcation system doesn't take long to match you with a roommate. It's random as others have said. Also when you get down to Vista Way for check-in they can randomly pair you with someone in line. You could start a conversation with someone in line and ask to room with them but then again they may either say "ok" or just stick you with someone else (I've heard of both things happening).

You could also talk to someone either on here looking for a roommate or elsewhere (Facebook, etc) and see if you two want to room together, then do roommate matching notifcation by getting their applicant number and requesting to be matched with them.

Hope that helps!
