Time to walk from BLT to MK?

Heh... I have used the boats to go from the polynesian and the grand floridian to MK and wrongly assumed that all the Lake resorts had it that way.

You could take the boat to the Poly/GF and take the Elevator to the monorail and get back to Contemporary that way, but that would be going to the long way around.

Just when you think you know Disney.. You always learn something new and since I just bought at BLT.. this is really good info to know.

Thanks!! :thumbsup2

You're welcome and personally taking the boat to the Polynesian or Grand Floridian would take to long just to get on the Resort Monorail from either location, because it will stop at the Magic Kingdom before it arrives back at the Contemporary. So that's why I think it's best to get on the Resort Monorail from the Magic Kingdom when going to the Contemporary/Bay Lake Tower, because the total ride time should be around 1:00 minute.

Hey gang -

We're using our new BLT add-on points (squee!) for the first time next month.

It's been a long time (about 28 years to be exact ) since I've stayed at the Contemporary Resort, but I remember vividly walking the path to the park instead of taking the monorail.

How long would you say the walk is going to be to MK from BLT? Guesses?

Since so many others answered the walking time part, I thought I would add some info regarding the highlighted part.
If you were to take the monorail, it could take 15-20 minutes to get to the MK as you have to go through the TTC, Poly, GF, and MK.
It only goes one way.
Oh, and don't get on the Express monorail by accident when returning to the CR/BLT, big pain! :lmao:
And as others have posted, if walking, watch that crossing over the main drag, brutal.
Our first trip home to BLT is Dec1-15/09, CAN'T WAIT!! :cool1:

I made an attempt at walking to CR from MK on this last trip in June, to see if I could do it. I bailed out, but then, I'm pushing 65 and use a cane part-time because of an occasionally creaky hip.

Sometimes even getting up the ramp to the monorail takes me a long time. So, I know that if it was late and I was tired, I'd never make it back in the evening -- so no Add-onitis for BLT for me!!!! :

My FIL went through a similar trip a few years back-still a great time. But the next trip he will be using an ECV so he can buz over to BLT without any bus to worry about. :thumbsup2

My daughter and I stayed at the Contemporary last August and we walked to MK several times it is an easy, breezy walk-no longer than 10 minutes. We did get caught in the rain once and we were soaked by the time we got into the park-but other than that, all I can say is location-location-location!

BLT -> MK is about twice as far as Beach Club to Epcot.

Is it really ?!?! We've stayed at YC alot and it seems like a longer walk to Epcot.. but maybe that's because of the little bit of a hill and the fact that you really don't see Epcot until you are almost right at the gate...

Now the walk from YC to DHS is a bit of a hike...

I think it depends on where you are in the YC/BC complex. From the BC lobby it was an easy walk, but I have to say, it was so hot when we were there 3 weeks ago, by the time we got to the bridge between the UK and France, we needed a break. In fact, we always stopped at the gift shop right inside the park entrance to cool off.

And I agree, I wouldn't even try walking to DHS.

If anyone wants to see exactly how long it takes going on the Resort Monorail from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary, here is a video from Youtube of that route and since the Monorail did not stop for traffic clearance the video is 100% accurate in terms of time.

Thank you for posting the video link. Watching it made my night.
I smile every time I hear the audio on the monorail. Makes me think of WDW trips my parents took us on decades ago.

We did Contemporary to Mk gates last Nov and if you're walking and not running, it definitely takes 10 minutes. It's farther than it appears from the monorail.

I could be wrong, but I thought they had boats from Ft Wilderness-CR-MK years and years ago (before WL was built)...

Another option: catch the boat from MK over to WL/Ft Wilderness and then transfer and catch the boat to the CR (which goes on an internal circuit between WL/CR and Ft Wilderness)... Maybe too complicated.. :)

We've stayed in the north wing of the CR (years ago) and it didn't take us any longer than 10mins...

from bcv to epcot - it is about the same - BLT is a little closer to MK - but not much

the walk from CR lobby to SECURITY at MK was around 10 minutes - including stopping at the traffic light for a good 2 minutes - also seem people walking thru this light (against the light) and the cars just flying.

this is one light that don't suggest to anyone to cross against it. too many people just fly thru that light - it is not safe.

remember the nice short cut we should get at night - does NOT exist during the day - you must walk further and go thru security.

of course the thing that really makes it mad - at night - seem a bunch of people jumping that fence - and since security it all in that one area - they don't even see these people.

so does security make me feel more security - you have got to be kidding.

Now that BLT is open and we have some real experience to point to, does anyone want to tell us how long this walk took them?

Looking forward to your report about how long it takes you.

Lots of variables: Age of walker(s); how much are you carrying/pushing; what physical shape are you in; are you hustling to make rope drop; how much cross traffic, and other pedestrian traffic (those large groups who take up and block the whole walkway); from what starting point (room, lobby, door, etc.) and ending point (security, ticket gate, Main Street, etc.); heat, rain . . . . . .

(Looks like planning on 15-20 minutes would be a good start, from reading other responses -- but I've known people who swear they drive to work in 10 minutes, when they live further away than I do, and it takes me 20+ on a similar route (and I'm hurrying)).
