Hi all! It's time to start planning for our Nov 2005 trip. This trip needs to be concluded before our APs expire on Nov 13. So, we have 2 weeks to choose from:

1. Nov 5 through Nov 12 - ok, the New Jersey teacher's conference is Nov 10 and 11. How can I expect this to affect crowds? I'm assuming that since election day is the week prior to this that NJ schools will only have off the 10th and 11th. Given this, will this be a crowded Jersey week? I think that since, this year (2004), the teachers conference was the same week as election day and the schools were close for 3 days (instead of 2), that this year's Jersey Week was more crowded. Do you agree with this assessment?

2. Oct 29 through Nov 5 - this week we will avoid the whole Jersey Week thing and will also have an opportunity to go to MNSSHP. It is just DH and I but I think I could get into dressing in costume and going to the party.

Barring the whole Jersey week thing, I think we prefer Nov 5 through Nov 12 just to allow the weather to cool a little more. MNSSHP is not a good enough reason in and of itself for us to go Oct 29 through Nov 5.

What do you think?

I'm not quite sure why only New Jersey figures so much in this, because when we lived in MD, they had most of the first week of Nov also off due to National Education week and we went to WDW in '89 during that week. No crowds then. Last time ('98) we went in mid-Nov and still no crowds. We're planning on going next Nov 6-12 ('05) and staying in SOG without kids since they're in college and planned it around our previous great experiences with Nov. As far as I know MD still has most of that week off too (we're in VA now). I don't know if there's as many good weeks anymore anyway. But, anything is better than Spring Break, summer and Christmas for crowds.

According to my 2005 calendar, election day is November 8, 2005.... you may also have Super Soap weekend on the 12-13....

We love Jersey week and have never had any issues with the crowds - we would rather go that week than in the summer..

We have been there numerous times during "jersey week" and have no issues with the crowds. We had the extra bonus this past Nov when Halloween happened to fall at the beginning of this week and we went to MNSSHP on Oct 31st. We had a great time enjoying something special and different. Since you have a choice of the two weeks I'd go so you can try MNSSHP.

Jeez, I thought election day was always the first Tuesday in November. In 2005, it's apparently the second Tuesday. What is the rule for that?

There is something strange with the dates this year. Jersey week (and election day) usually both are the 1st week of the month and this year are both the second week. The OP is right, the first weekend is soaps weekend.

We have done Jersey week before and love it (ok, so we are from Jersey). This year we are going and leading a whole group. It should be fun.

If you want in on our group rate, PM me and I'll give you details for POP or CB

Enjoy
Sandy

Hey all, a NY teacher here. Actually Election Day is scheduled for the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, hence the later date this year (can't tell I teach Social Studies, can you?) ;) . We don't get any time off that week here, unfortunately, so I can't offer any input on the crowds. Have a great time, whenever you decide to go!
