Time to remove Indy speedway

Everyone says it should be themed to Cars, but in another thread we were just talking about Wreck It Ralph and I think they should actually theme the Speedway to the Sugar Rush game in that movie :)

that said, the cars need to be faster, less stinky, and the track needs to be made more interesting.
That would be cute!

I don't get the appeal of Speedway as it is now. Plus the fumes are awful. IMO Tomorrowland in its entirety needs a refurb, starting with the creepy music.

And they need to fix the Buzz lasers. I'm totally getting more points than it says. But I do kinda enjoy the creepy music ;)

everytime I walk by it I shake my head. Does not belong, no nostalgia, no movie or character tie in. Feels like it belongs at a six flags.

Anyone willing to defend it?

No nostalgia for you. It's not the same for everyone. I love that kind of ride. Always have. I have nostalgia about it despite not having gone to WDW as a kid.

For a place like WDW to not have a majorly classic type of ride would be crazy. You see it as bad that every other place has it. I would see it as ridiculous that even those places have it but Disney doesn't.

And I do NOT need everything to have movie or character tie ins.

I wish it had better scenery - the one in Storyland in New Hampshire has better scenery! It seems really short too, and just blah... I think they should redo it, maybe have quieter cars, add some trees/bushes? The one at Disneyland seems cool, with the monorail entwined with the track, and doesn't it have a longer track too? The WDW one seems to just get going and then you are in a traffic jam at the end.

Funny you mention Storyland...I think those cars are both electric and now have sensors so that you can't bump the car in front of you or blow by the attendant that tells you to get out.

Sheesh another person wanting to remove an outdated attraction, to a first timer it's not worn out Walt Disney wanted it there for a reason, just because you are tired of it doesn't mean the thousands of first timers will. Disney isn't a park that needs to remove older attractions you can go to universal for that. Disney is iconic so yeah I defend it with passion!

The "speedway" (as much as I enjoy the 500, and like the #14 up on the standing pole, WDW's attraction is an abomination to the word speedway)
desperately needs an Autotopia-like remake

Autotopia splits into (2) tracks of 2 lanes so it's not big expanses of concrete.

Autotopia landscape and surroundings was designed...actually has some landscape/urban design chops. The track "terrain" varies..

Autotopia uses more modern engines (smoother, quieter, less gas-smelly)

I didn't ride Autopia in DL, but this was obvious from just going by it on the train. The cars are much cuter too.

Really? I'm going in 3 weeks and that's one of my son's favorite rides. What's wrong with it?

We were there last week and rode it a few times. The ride vehicles are in serious need of a paint job. They are filthy and chipped. Some of the features in the ride that are supposed to move (the red robot's arms in the first room) do not move. The guns don't seem to fire as accurately or as often as they once did.

I would ride it but they don't give out gas masks when you board the car!

I consider Peter Pan, HM, POTC classic rides. We need more like that. I don't see WDW needing the types of rides (not attractions) that standard amusement parks have. It doesn't need a scrambler, bumper cars, spider, ferris wheel (yes, I know there is one at California Adventure).

At least update it and make it fun with a Disney's Cars theme, and get rid of those polluting gas engines! they could make them electric and stop being one of the biggest polluters in the state of Florida.:car:

It may be old and smell like fumes but it is nostalgic to me. First WDW memory I can remember was going on that with my dad and him letting me steer the wheel as I couldn't yet reach the pedal.
