OK, so finally signed up for an Owners Locker (I am SO excited) and I am trying to decide how to get my stuff down there. Debating between shipping a box (or two) and checking a bag with all of the contents ($15 ea. way to check a bag so if I check a bag large enough to hold everything going down then I gotta check it again to get it home 'cuz it will exceed the carry-on limits).

We are going to SSR for this trip and since they're not a convention resort they will not charge to receive packages (yes, I called [twice] to be sure)! I have been pricing diff. size boxes & weights online at USPS. I'm estimating that I will be shipping between 30-35 Lbs worth of stuff and I have one box large enough to hold everything which is 24 x 20 x 10.5 so it's "oversized" and "may" incur an additional fee. I called the P.O. and she said she couldn't tell me over the phone. Anyway, to send it Parcel Post with some insurance and del. confirmation it will run approx. $32. WHEN should I mail it? The website says 5 days. The girl on the phone says that's not guaranteed. (Of course, they want me to pay double that to ensure del. time.) If you were going on a Friday would you ship it the previous Friday???

can you tell I have a HUGE smile on my face???????
Welcome to Owner's Locker!
The resort will hold your package. I'd send it a few days early. Address it to yourself c/o the resort and make sure you use a street address which you can find here:

www.ownerslocker.com/locations

The Disney resorts are under "D." Also put your arrival date on the package

I'd shy away from USPS so that the package goes straight to the resort and doesn't get caught up in th internal WDW mail system
Welcome aboard!

I don't think USPS delivers mail directly to each resort. The resorts might have someone pick up their mail at the post office each day. You will have to find out. They do offer flat rate priority boxes for a fixed price, no matter how heavy the package weighs. Go to USPS.com and it will give you all the prices. I use them alot:thumbsup2

Before my home resort started charging a fee, I always shipped via UPS without problems. I would usually send it the Friday or Sat before I was scheduled to leave. On the day before I departed I would call the resort and confirm that they had my package there and alerted them when I would be arriving.

FWIW, I just shipped 2 boxes, one at 19 lbs and 1 at 8 lbs and my total was $30.13.

I guess I am the dissenter here. I would pack and pay for one piece of checked luggage to tote down your OL stuff. You will have the checked piece for a back-up to add any last minute items for the trip to WDW. Then you'll have some extra luggage space coming home, which makes packing easier. Hence forward you can enjoy your WDW trips with ONLY carry on luggage. Welcome aboard! You are going to LOVE it and soon you can be the kind DISer who helps others who may hesitate to take the plunge into the convenience of Owners Locker!

I wouldn't use parcel post. I'd suggest UPS or FedEx Ground. I have an account with FedEx (www.fedex.com). I print my shipping label at home and drop the box off at FedEx/Kinko's. Works like a charm and I can track the package every step of the way.

:rotfl:I'm so glad I asked about this....I use the USPS Flat Rate Boxes all the time to send packages to my BIL who is stationed in Iraq...but it would take like 4 or 5 of them to hold all of this stuff (plus I have a couple of items that are too big to fit).... So I just almost always use the P.O. for mailing 'cuz of the APO address... But I forgot all about UPS!!! OK, so I just called them and it would only cost about $24 including $100 insurance and with a 2 day ground guaranteed delivery with a tracking number!! WOW! LOL...I so can't wait!!

Since this next trip is just a quickie 4 nighter I really wanted us to just go in carry-ons and not have to deal with baggage claim when we get home! I am SOLD now on using UPS for this! Esp. since I KNOW I can ship it w/ a guaranteed delivery date!! :yay: Thanks ya'll!!!!

(PS) Anybody know if UPS has a rule against shipping alcohol like the P.O. does???:confused3

Why not just pack the box and check it at the airport? Then ME will bring it straight to your room. No need to worry about it getting lost in the mail and (depending on what airline you will fly) will cost the same as shipping it. You have the airline insurance on it and it goes through fewer hands.
