time to go to beach & shop ?

in st thomas or st marten - is everything close by that there is time enoughto go shopping,return to the ship,and then go to a beach and be back in time for depature?

We did the bus tour in St Martin and then returned, had lunch and took the water taxi into town and walked around. There wasn't anything truly interesting to me in town, unless you count your over the average number of jewelry stores, tshirt shops and general made in china type of tourist stuff. St Thomas has a Kmart near the dock (but not right at the dock) and the shops in port are similar to St Martin. Countless jewelry shops and embroidered tablewear stores. Plenty of time but nothing I wanted to buy.

Don't know about St. Thomas, but St. Maarten you dock right at Front Street and you are close to the shopping. I found the jewelry and electronics great! Bought a new diamond ring and a digital camera while we were there last year.

But I guess it does all depend on what you are looking for if you find the shopping good or not.

At both ports you will have enough time to shop & beach. Well enough time for me to shop.. think one hour limit for me!! I think St. Thomas has a shopping area as soon as you get off the ship. I think it was about 3/4 buildings that had various shops in them. St. Maaren had some small shops as well withing walking distance.

We shopped and did the beach on our own in both ports and made it back to the ship in plenty of time
