Just got off the phone with my guide, after deciding that I needed 1 more point on my SSR add-on (How obsessive is that?) so that my 3 year points will total 168.

She said that next year, we will be able to use Disney Visa Rewards to pay our DVC dues.
I have resisted applying but this news may prompt me to add this one to my plastic arsenal.

Has anyone else heard this? or think it will be a good way to use rewards?

The way I see it, whether I use my Disney Visa rewards for admissions or dues doesn't really matter. I won't generate enough award credits to pay either of them fully (I hope!!!). :p

To me, the rewards are good if applying them against something else that you would have paid Disney for anyway (like admissions). So yes, I think paying dues with them would be nice as an option.

Maybe that's some of the "big news" that was hinted about to Doc. I'm not sure if it's good or bad that I don't run up my Visa enough to make a big difference. I've been planning to apply it towards admission but I may use it more if it could go towards dues.

I wonder if we can pay our dues with the card and then apply the credits when next year's dues roll around?

Well, since I use my frequent flyer card like a check book and have the whole total automatically withdrawn from my Checking account every month so I can get free air fare, I guess I will have to think about doing something similar with the Disney Visa. Not sure I would use if for dues though, but admission sounds good!

I woudl like this option, but as much as I've spent on it already i've only got 128 in reward money now. Regadless, I was planning on using it towrds an AP. It has to be spent on Disney some way or another, nice to ahve another option.

Did they mention if we'd be able to start having our dues put onto our cards monthly, too? And maybe even our DVc loan payments?

She did not mention this Len. I did ask about paying dues with a reward card, but she said that it's only if you pay dues yearly. My question about dues was what prompted her to tell me about the reward option being available next year.

Is it true you get $1 for every $100 you spend? $10 per $1000? So Im looking at maybe $300 to $400 a year towards dues if I cycle everything through my Visa.

Yes, that's what I used to do with my Amex SkyMiles card, and last March I switched to the same strategy using the Disney Visa card. I write very few checks any more, instead charging groceries, gas, pretty much everything to the Visa card. Of course, to do this you have to be very disciplined about using it as charge card, and not credit card, that is, paying the full balance every month.

I use Quicken to track my finances, and I get automatic download of all my Visa charges, which is nice.

And best of all, I just ordered and received my first Rewards card, with $200 on it to use on my December WDW trip!

Yes. Some of the frequent flyer cards offer better deals in that you get double miles for various types of purchases, etc., but with frequent flyer rules becoming increasingly complicated and restrictive, it is nice to know that at least in the Disney Rewards case there is a simple formula that translates to Reward dollars that can be used anytime and pretty much anywhere within WDW, DL, and even on DCL.

Will the Disney Visa be the only credit card allowed for dues? I did use my Disney Visa for a recent add-on because they were offering 0% interest for 6 months. So I paid in full at 6 months and got the $75 in Rewards to boot. BUT...I also love my MilesOne card. Better than FF miles because the miles are used to buy a REGULAR ticket on ANY airline, with no blackouts, etc. I'll have to do some math to figure out which card is really better if Visa cards, other than Disney, become an alternative for dues.

DVC currently accepts any Visa/MasterCard for dues (lump sum only) or single loan payments, but not the monthly payment. I doubt they could refuse another VISA -- all VISA and MasterCards are covered by an agreement between the merchant and the association.

I suspect it would not be to DVC's advantage to accept Visa/MasterCard for monthly payments as it increases DVC's costs with no offsetting advantage to Disney. Accepting a lump sum however, gives DVC the money all at once at the start of the year so there is a timing advantage to warrant paying the discount to Visa/MasterCard.

So far the Disney Visa is not all that rewarding. It does have a high annual award limit. But an affiliation card can afford that when you can only spend the rewards with the affiliate (it's only a 1% discount off of the profit margin). I keep hoping that they will offer some better perks.

Never knew we could use a Visa! Our dues currently are automatically deducted from our checking account. Guess we'll have to think about switching it over to Visa to get some payback.

It has worked out well for us to use the Disney Visa for all purchases too. I enter the amount I charge on Visa in my checkbook, and then deduct it from my balance. When the bill comes or spirit moves me (actually, my husband says something about the balance) I pay it off online. I have $165 and plan to use it for a splurge. Sandie

I think they have to take all Visas for any transaction that takes the Disney Visa. Even the "kids get in free" promotion applies to trips charged with any Visa card, not just the Disney Visa.

We had them charge our original DVC purchase in 2 installments to our Disney Visa. Now, when we go on our first trip "home" in January, we have at least $288 to spend in the parks! We then used a home equity checking account (at 5%) to pay the Visa. Works for us!

Me too. I am crossing my fingers.

We WERE able to get a $50 onboard credit when booking our upcoming 4-day cruise. That was good. Plus, the 0% for 6 months was a good thing, as well. Definitely took advantage of that.

From my prior Disney visa card experience with the 0% for 6 months, this is what I found out. The 0% 6 months only works if you don't charge anything else after the "big" disney charge.

For instant, you charged $15,000 for the DVC purchase on 9/1/03. By 9/30/03, you have an additional misc. charges of $500. You now have an outstanding balance of $15,500. Although the 15,000 charge from DVC is interest free for 6 months, the $500 is not. If you make a payment of $500, that will go toward the $15,000. Interest and fees will be incurred for the $500. So, unless you don't use the visa card after the $15,000 charge, the "6 months interest free" term wouldn't really apply.

We charged our August trip on Disney Visa thinking to take advantage of the 6 mth 0%. Of course, we charged other things to the card afterward. When the bill came I thought all we have to pay is everything else but the disney trip and still enjoy the 0%, but was told that payment will first be applied to what was charged on the earlier dates. That changed the whole plan. We ended up paying for the entire bill to avoid interest and fees. Just watch out for that.

Poohstar, good tip! I will need to keep that in mind when we pay off our cruise with it. We are using our Disney VISA the same way that a number of you seem to be using it. We charge pretty much everything on it. Then we pay it off online every Sunday night. My husband has really racked up the Disney Dollars with some huge business trips. He just got back from a Microsoft conference in LA and paid for a party of 6 from work with the card. It was great because we got nearly $100 just off that trip alone. Does anyone know if there is a limit per year on reward dollars? I'm sure that my husband knows but he's at work right now. By our trip in May we should have enough dollars to pay for at least 2 5-day Hopper Passes.

Can you charge a DVC purchase to a non-Disney card? I intend to pay cash when the time comes, but if I can use a rewards card (GM or FF card), then that's great!

Sam

Yes you can - I did that in 1997 and don/t think the rules have changed. At least I hope not since I plan to do just that tomorrow to get the credits on my SW rapid rewards card.
