time on passport

when entering the U.S how many months do you need to have left on your passport? I think its 9 months but my husband thinks its 12 months. Can someone please help this disagreement.

The only time needed on a UK passport is the length of time your stay is due to be, although airlines sometimes require 6 months.

Ive travelled on Virgin to the USA with about 3 months on my passport and it was fine.

My sons passport expires 6 months after we get back from the state of Disney. Rather than take a chance and risk spoiling the holiday we are renewing it. The renewal states that the passport office will add the 6 months onto the new passport. Still going to cost us £45.00 though.

We go in October and our passports expire in February. I could not get a definitive answer from anybody - I concur with what Claire has said, this is the information I found and American Airlines (who we are flying with for the first time, usually Virgin) advised us. BUT - they said it was often the UK who want the 6 months validity

To save any angst, I have last week sent off our renewals. Ridiculous amount of money - £177 for the three of us - but would rather be safe than sorry.
