On error pins. What is an error pin? I know we all looked at the Pink Nose Tigger and thought it was an error. Well I learned later that that is how he is shown in Cartoons and when he is on Stage it is the Black color. The tennis Mickey (Mickey in Drag) is an error as they forgot to put on eye lashes. The other one that comes to mind in the Ying Yang Mickey head. It had the dots not only the wrong color but upside down.

So what pins do you consider an error or just a flaw in color or design?

I have an extremely rare error pin. It's the upside down Epcot Holidays Around the World Dinner pin. I wore it on my lanyard at the August event last year and it was quite a conversation piece! People were astounded that an entire pin could have been produced upside down, and that I was not nervous to wear it in public:D !! Well, that kind of sums up what I think about "error" pins...I don't quite get the excitement about them, and the skeptic in me wonders whether they are produced on purpose to heighten the excitement and the sales.....

What does everyone else think?

Berlize -- Wrong spelling Wrong cat
Berlioz -- right spelling still wrong cat
Toulouse -- Wrong cat

10709: Mickey & Pals - Disney History of Art (Cinderella 1950) The clock in the background has the wrong time on it... Says straight up 11 Pm instead of 5 to midnight

Januray 1 -- they pulled this one when the realized they spelled it wrong

Those are just a few.

I just bought one from EBay. The features Mickey dressed as a director in front of a large "2000", below a yellow banner reading "Cast Appreciation Day". There is a small error: part of Mickey's face is the same color as his shirt.

My personal opinion is a true error pin is when the entire run has the same error. The one's Figgy mentioned above are good examples. Occasionally 1, 2, maybe 3 pins come through with a unique color error. This is usually a result of the person adding the color and/or the firing process. To me this are just mistaes that the inspectors did not catch. I do not care for error pins and do not understand the facination with them.

Hey guys,
At the MGM event, the Indiana Jones pin was an error. Indy is chasing the boulder instead of the boulder chasing Indy. I think WDW events discovered the problem on many pins and this is the reason so many people didn't get the pin that day. Someone had pre-ordered it from me and when I told them about the error, they didn't want the pin. I had to substitute another one. It's still in my trade bag now. I think there are very few "true" error pins and many defective/damaged or color variated ones. After all, these pins are mostly hand-filled with colors so many mistakes are bound to happen.

I agree... In fact I think there are a lot less "true error" pins out there than people think.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that a "true" error pin is generally pulled from production, or corrected as soon as the error is noticed.

Example--Aurora without sleeves. This was sold until the new production of the pin was released, with Sleeves.

Mickey "in drag" tennis--pulled as soon as it was known that they forgot Minnie's eyelashes. Remade correctly.

Atlanta Braves pin with Cincinatti misspelled (as I may have just done!) That one was pulled and not sold--but somehow got out

Tara has a Mouseketeer cheerleading pin, with Mouseketeer spelled Mousketeer! (reminds me of the song, Meeska, Mouska, Mouseketeer :D)

In my eyes, those are error pins. Wrong backstamps too.

Now, for color errors, those are just differences in production runs most of the time. As someone else said, a color mixing with another, or an area missing color. To me, that is more of a defect than an error pin. Again, this is just my opinion on the matter.

Ok I had someone add a pin and send me a picture of the CM Fantasmic DATED pin.... Yes I have heard this pin was out there for over 2 years but had yet to see one or verify its existance beyond rumor... So someone added the pin tonight but their info is not all correct which is not surprising as this is not a common pin... They are calling it an error pin due to the date on being wrong on the pin but they don't explain why it is wrong... Here is what I have found out from searching the web about fantasmic (never found anything actually mentioning the pin so I am piecing this together)

The pin has the date 01- Oct - 98 on it.

Fantasmic was originally slotted to opening on Oct 1st but for various reasons was pushed to Oct. 15th instead but by that time they already had the pin made and so they gave them to the CM. Now here is the question.. Do you consider this an error pin? I mean the date was certainly wrong but originally that was the correct date so the pin was not MADE in error more they just kinda decided to ignore that little inconsitancy...

Now i just have to reword the description..LOL
