Hi,

Does anyone know what time the Disney Magic sails on?

I'm booking an excursion in Grand Cayman and the company have mentioned some ships have a big time difference in that some sail on Texan time and some on Florida Time? and that we need to know the difference in time from the ship to island time before we book excursions.

It's confused me!!!

The Disney Magic sails on whatever time zone they are in. If you change time zones your stateroom host will give you a little card telling you to turn your clocks forward or back. Have a great cruise! pirate:

thanks for the reply!

Does that mean that the island arrival times stated on the booking form will be the island times then?

When we went on a Western Cruise this past March, we were not always on island time. We were told repeatedly not to ask the time at one port of call, that the local time was different than ship time. I wish I would have paid more attention to the port/ time zone so I could help you more. Maybe someone else did, but I am positive that island time was not always ship time. I just don't remember if it was Grand Cayman or Cozumel that was different. :confused3

hmm... thats weird. Because they have always updated us on timezone changes. although we have never taken one of the 7night Caribbean cruises east or west. pirate:

DCL did great at notifying us of the time changes regularly and keeping us up to date on the ship time. I just specifically remember that one island was different because they drilled it in everyone's head (the cruise director told everyone repeatedly the night before at the show, our room attendant told us a few times, plus several announcements the morning at port, plus the CM in charge of various excursions) - probably the only reason I remember- ha ha :)

We are actually heading to OK City for a family reunion shortly.

Do you remember what island that was? i guess i understand why they may want to remain on ship time rather than island time. However, to do that they would need to be more understanding to passengers who arrive back at the ship late or who are ready to get off early... depending on if the island is ahead or behind ship time.

Thats cool that you're heading this way! If you've never been here before, most first timers say that OKC is much better than they expected. Also don't believe all the ads for Frontier City. It may be Oklahoma's largest theme park, but its also the smallest. OKC is pretty fun if you find all of the fun stuff to do! If you need any advise on what to do let me know! Have a good trip up here! pirate:

p.s. bring sunscreen!!

Normally, the ship changes time to be in sync with island time. However it is completely at the captain's discretion. We have been on one or two where ship time and island time are different. Usually this happens if the US is in daylight savings time and the islands/Mexico are not (since the US has started it earlier and earlier the past few years). DCL doesn't want to make a 2 hr time change forward and back on a 7 night cruise.

Wow thanks for all your replies, thats certainly helped! :yay:

I'm going the same as you, trying to book excursions for our Western cruise in December for Cozumel and Grand Cayman. By mid-December, we won't be on Daylight Saving time anymore. I think that means we have a better shot at ship time being the same as island time. But I really want to be sure so that I don't book excursions on the island and have the wrong timing!

Anyone have experience with the Western cruise in winter months that are not on Daylight Saving time? Is the time on the Magic the same as island time?

*bump* Still looking for an answer...

Heard from my TA:

Disney does operate on island time when they are at the various ports of call. Keep in mind however that the times the ship is in port however is subject to change.

In March, especially when daylight savings time takes effect, DCL will stay on ship time and not always sync with port time. It cuts down on how many times you have to change your clock during the cruise. When we were on in March, we were an hour behind in Key West, an hour ahead in Cozumel and the same as Grand Cayman time.

if you are booking your excursions thru the ship then the times shouldn't be a big deal. when we did this itinerary they did the time change to the port of calls. but to always be on the safe side when booking outside of the ship we booked ours and made sure we had at least a couple hours before and after the ships time frames including at time changes.

but i agree with one of the other posters it is up to the captian at that time if you change times or not.

We were on the Western in December this past year and we were on island time. We got the little notes in the room to turn our clocks forward or back. So everything matched - ship time and shore time. :thumbsup2

:offtopic:
I love that you called it Texas time instead of CST. I always thought we could use our own timezone.
