Tim Tebow

IMO in the off season he should watch Rothlisberger tapes and dust off some old Steve Young, Warren Moon and even Randall Cunningham footage to learn from. :)

Including the tapes of the last Steelers game? You know the one, where the starting quarterback had no business playing, and pretty much cost his team the game? His throwing mechanics were totally off, and he placed his own need to play over what was good for the team.

I don't think Tim needs to learn that. Though I do agree some Steve Young, or even Joe Montana would be helpful. Or Dan Marino.

oh please.....he had on religious eyeblacks but he no more touted religion than he does at the moment....
and this is a life long gator and also native floridian so I have seen all the florida media have done to him.

I actually have heard MORE about Tim's faith since he went to the NFL than I did in all the years he spent in Gainesville. Sure, it was there, but it's been greatly magnified since the national media got a hold of him.

I saw his eyeblack as a way to make a silent statement. If you wanted to know more, you could look it up. If you didn't want to know more, you could just ignore it. Funny thing though, I noticed at least during his senior year that the verse under his eyes would be the number one Google Trend when the Gators were playing. I guess probably both those who liked what he was doing and those who hated what he was doing were looking it up. ;)

If he was wearing eyeblack that said Breast Cancer Awareness or something of the like nobody would have blinked. Sad that a religious verse that again you don't HAVE to look up can bother people.

I am not particularly religious and have lots of faith questions, and it didn't bother me back then in the least, his eyeblack or any of his interviews. And it doesn't bother me today that he starts his press conferences with, "I want to thank Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior." This is America after all and we have the right to say such things. And I would say the same thing if he was thanking Buddha, Allah or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. :)

Regarding Rothlisbergher I was speaking more of his successful Super Bowl winning seasons..trust me I'm no "Big Ben" fan as a Pats fan I loathe the Steelers but even I admit that the man is a quality NFL QB because he has brought his team to the promised land on more than one occasion.

My point was like any great athlete does, Tebow needs to watch and learn from the players that came before him that had similar skill sets. In Tebow's case that would be Big Ben, Moon, Cunningham, Steve Young and even Elway.

I may be wrong on this but I don't think Tebow can work with Elway until official workouts begin and then Training Camp due to the NFL Offseason Workout rules. Working out with the Team (Elway counts) would be a violation and would result in heavy fines and losing weeks of sanctioned practices for the entire team. So Tebow needs to take time on his own to watch film, study and know the NFL offense, then step into training camp ready to learn how to become an NFL QB. Otherwise, his career is going to be a flash in the pan. Even if I am wrong on the above, Tebow should take time and watch and study film just like any great athlete should.

The bottom line is unless he becomes an NFL passer we won't be having this discussion a year from now because he will be a backup QB. Right now he has backup QB number 50% completion and under 200 yards through the air and 100 yds rushing are not numbers that will take you to the Super Bowl let alone give you a long, successful and winning NFL career. Just look at Vick how many Super Bowls has he won? Or how about Vince Young?

So either Tebow needs to change, learn and grow or the Broncos need to retool their entire Offensive Line to have the skill set to protect a run-first, pass-second QB.Trust me the Broncos nor any other team in the NFL have enough draft picks, roster space or CAP space to pull that off, because that would mean having almost 2 sets of O Lineman, unless of course they were to sign a Running QB as their backup (kind of like what the Eagles did). Like I said before good NFL Defenses are going tear him apart the second time around once they make the adjustments to defend the I Formation. You saw how the bottom ranked Defense of the Pats made in game adjustments, just think what is going to happen if the Broncos make the playoffs or next year when that offense faces top ranked NFL Defense? I can tell you what will happen, exactly what happened in week 15 against the Pats, they will make mistakes on offense and special teams then start over thinking and over pursuing on Defense and good NFL Teams will capitalize and beat them. History has taught us so.

RAmen....I just wanted to give you props for dropping the FSM pirate:

He chose to wear his religion on his sleeve (or in his case, under his eyes)! He chose to let everyone know where he stood on abortion. He continues to bring religion into interviews and on the playing field. I'm not knocking him for doing that. It is his right. My point was he chose that path. He could have simply played football, threw in an occasional "thank you, Jesus" while talking to the media and let it go. He didn't. So I stand by my belief that he put himself up pretty high. I don't think he views himself as perfect by a long shot but he has set the standards himself. I say bravo to him for having the guts to do that. But he needs to be prepared that if he decides to go down the "sinful path" he will get called out on it more-so than the Tom Brady's of this world that never claimed they were following the path Tebow is following.

I totally agree with what you've said. :thumbsup2

Although I'm not so sure the media response was exactly what he was expecting in regards to the scale/size of the response, but I'm absolutely positive that the response is what he wanted (whether he would admit that publicly or not).

I said it upthread, but as a very faithful and evangelical follower, isn't this response to his faith EXACTLY what Tebow would want? For people to be discussing his faith and/or message? After all, one of the goals of evangelical religions is to spread their message far and wide.

Ben's coach is just as responsible for that, and has admitted it.

:thumbsup2 definitely.

But putting Tebow on the pedestal and making him out to be a god of some sort is not what he'd have them do. But, that's human nature. Kind of like--where is Moses, the great leader, buried? Or just where is the Ark of the Covenant? Exactly where was Jesus Christ born? No answers--because it is human nature to make the wrong things "gods."

What do you think he'd think about some of the more over-the-top responses on this thread? :scared1: :lmao:

Kidding aside, I absolutely agree with what you've said above. :thumbsup2

It is true that by being so open about his faith, he has set a high standard for himself. My athletic child looks up to him as a role model - big time. If he messes up, I may just have to hunt him down :rotfl:.

Any player who sits himself, when a game is that important, I would question his desire to play and drive. You talk to ANY pro-player who wants to win more then make money, and they would have done the same. Ben playing wasnt Bens fault, it was Tomlins and he has already addressed why he made the decision. Players play hurt, it is what they do, why they are competing at that level.

I don't think Tim needs to learn that.

I disagree. He needs to understand how important it is for him to be on the field. Otherwise, you have people sitting because their nose is runny.

Your response shows a lack of understanding of the psyche of a true Professional Sport Player.

And it certainly makes sense that our opinions would vary. You are a native Floridian and a huge Gators fan. I have only lived here for a few years and I despise the Gators. Makes sense that we would see things a bit differently, no? If you try and rip on one of my players on one of my teams, I would defend them just as you are doing.

And please try to understand that I don't have a beef with Tebow. He is what he is and I think he has a lot of guts to put himself out there as this very Christian person when he is in a profession that isn't always on the up and up. I say good for him. But he also created this himself and if he decides to get caught up in drugs or hookers, or has a baby out of wedlock, the media will have an absolute field day with it compared to the likes of Brady who never made the claims that Tebow makes.

:thumbsup2 I think he knows exactly what he is doing. Again, good for him. But once you create something, don't have a fit when people call you out on it if you don't live up to that expectation. I hope he is true to his word and this isn't just something his mom brainwashed him with. He seems like a good guy.

That explains a lot about why you feel the way you do about Tebow. Why such feelings after a few years? Usually people who get so worked up about college sports to the point of despising a school have some dog in the race. What's yours? :confused3

Sorry, maybe despise was too harsh of a word. I have alliances to my home teams. I do not like ANY Florida teams (college or professional). I don't root for them and I don't keep up with the box scores. My daughter will likely become a Knight next year so I might be forced to endure some games over the next few years. You are native to FL so it makes sense that you are a Gator fan. It wasn't my school or in my state so my alliances lie elsewhere. Nothing more nefarious than that, I'm afraid.

Except the FSM was created to mock, it is satire. So if youre an athlete, and you praise the FSM, youre gonna get a backlash. I can see it now

"I also would like to thank the FSM for touching me with its noodley appendage and granting me the skill to compete at this level."

The Media would have a field day with that.

Well, it is an anti-Christian satire so maybe not

It's not anti-any Religion in particular...It's a parody of all of them both new and old :goodvibes

I'm a faithful Pastafarian.....argh pirate:

That would be awesome if Danny Woodhead thanked the FSM since clearly His Noodly Goodness favors him because he is short, the FSM's noodly appendage clearly touches him more than it does Jared Gaither :goodvibes

No, it is meant to mock Religion. It is satire. While I understand the point they are making with the FSM, it IS anti-religion.
