Tim and Lesley Year of Million Compromises/TONS pics- 8/5 help me pg. 164!!!

Lesley,

I know you are busy planning your trip (well, not really planning anymore - actually getting ready to go) but could you give me your input on our plans? After reading yours, Kona & LeCellier sound great. LeCellier was one of my picks in the early stages of planning. So I was considering ditching HDDR to go to these two - what do you think? I have 2 children - 6 & 11 mths.

Also, what do you know about the kiddie cones at Kona? I've read that kids can't get them on DDP? :confused3 Help me out here...

Hi, never too busy to help someone out:goodvibes . First of all I must say, I have never been to Kona or LeCellier, we are trying them new this trip based on the reviews of people I know and here on the Dis. As for the kiddie cone, I think it stinks if you can't get it on the plan anymore, same for the chocolate mousse at LeCellier, but I know my kids will be thrilled with any desert at a meal, we rarely get them when we go out for dinner here at home so it's a nice treat when on vacation no matter what it is. For me, I don't use 2 credits for one meal on the DP, I try to get as many meals as possible out of it, If I were to do it with kids your age I would do the Mickey Backyard BBQ over HDDR, just my oppinion, looks like a ton of fun and the kids would love it. Let me know what you decide, hope I was some help.

I will jump in here and say that I've never done the HDDR, but Kona and le Cellier were definitely our best meals of the week. Kona has a slight edge for me - The crab cakes were fantastic, the filets were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the desserts were awesome! Don't miss it if you possibly can go there. I think it will be on our must-do list from now on. But Le Cellier was wonderful as well. It was a close second.

Thanks Lesley :thumbsup2

I posted a poll about this same thing, I'll have to go check out my results so far. I am leaning more toward the 2 restaurants instead of any shows mainly because we are from the south & the meal served at HDDR & even the BBQ is something we normally eat. I'd really like to try stuff we don't usually have, KWIM? If we do a dinner show, we'd have use of all our meals, if we do the 2restaurants, we'd have a CS left over. But I've read on here that they could be used for several snacks. :confused3

We don't do dessert at home either, but the kiddie cone is so cute. Somewhere I saw an adult could get it but not a child.

Thanks for your quick reply. :cheer2:

I want our packet from AAA so badly I can taste it. I called today to check on it and they said it's usually 14 days, out. MAN OH MAN what are they trying to do to me :rotfl2:

*drool* OMGosh my mouth is absolutely watering after seeing those pics!!! Only 14 more days til I am eating all that amazing food with my family and best friends:woohoo: :cloud9:

Lesley, I didn't know you had a myspace page (though I never thought to ask!) PMing you mine now ;)

Ohana was sooooooo good! It has become my pick for our first night in the world with a late ressie so we can see Wishes from there. We had 2 plates of the potatoes they were so good, DH still talks about them!

Loved Ohana! DS liked it too-he ate lots of pineapple and really enjoyed the races. This time we are going to try breakfast. Does anyone know if we can get the Tonga Toast there?

I don't think so but I could be wrong, as the breakfast is a all you care to eat in a skillet. They have Mickey Waffles, Sausage, Eggs, Potatoes, Fruit Salad, and some yummy breads. Of course I guess you could always ask. We really liked Ohana's Breakfast as well and found that when we had a late ADR time we had WONDERFUL character interaction as we were one of the only parties in the place. Loads of fun!

No Tonga Toast, but the sweet bread was awesome! And they were very good to my niece who did not eat any meat or egg products. The chef came out and spoke to her, and not only made her waffles without eggs, but made some sort of a vegetable/tofu stirfry. And the characters were a lot of fun, too! We did dinner there on the 4th of July once, and it was a great way to see the fireworks without battling the crowds at the parks.

Lesley, I took classes on campus not online. I got my Masters in Mental Health
Counseling. I really enjoyed the program and about 99% of the professors. :thumbsup2

Caution - threadjacking ahead ...

It has become my pick for our first night in the world with a late ressie so we can see Wishes from there.

YAY - maybe I shouldn't change my ADR then! We've got one for 8:20 on Tues, 6/6 and I've been calling every day to see if anything earlier opens up. We're going to AK that day, so we'll have a nice long rest from 5-8.

If you can do Ohana's at/near fireworks time it is great. They lower the lights, stop serving and pump in the music. It's WONDERFUL....now back to the regularly scheduled thread...lol.

Ooh that sounds so nice! Our ADR is at 7:40 but we're a party of 10 that night so it is entirely possible that we will still be there at Wishes time :cloud9:

ETA - just realized Wishes is at 10pm that night :( Oh well! There's always next time (and there's always a next time hehe)

Sorry for the hijack Lesley:rolleyes1

With a party of ten, you might still be there! But seriously, you can probably stroll down to the beach and see the show there. Some people say that they have they sound piped in on the beach; some say the speakers were not replaced. Either way, it is a lovely evening!

We have a reservation for Ohana on Sept 22nd at 8:20, I am going to ask for a window seat if possible. Do they pipe in the music and can you see the fireworks even from the tables??

Yes, they pipe in the music, and you can see from the tables. If you really want a front window table, arrive early for your reservation and let them know that you are willing to wait for a window table.
