Anyone cooked it before? What did you do?

I bought some the other day but I don't know how to cook it.:rotfl:

Google for recipes - that's what I do!. I think you can treat it like whole trout - lemon juice and herbs and butter inside and out then put it under the grill/

We love tilapia!!! Here's a couple of things we love:

Melt half a stick of butter in a large skillet. Saute 6-8 garlic cloves in the butter. Season fish with lemon pepper. Place fish on top and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side until it flakes easily. Serve with lemon wedges.

Grind up a half cup of pine nuts coarsely. Dip tilapia in egg, then pine nuts. Cook in butter for 2-3 minutes per side until it flakes easily.

My kids will readily eat this as it's very mild and not too "fishy."

We like our Tilapia, Basa and Catfish all done the same way. Either sprinkle Cajun Seasoning on & bake it or top with some pesto and some mozzarella then bake. Time varies depending on how thick the filets are, but it's about 20 minutes at 350. I've pretty much stopped looking for other recipes because we just love it this way! :teeth:

DH loves parmesan crusted tilapia...

Here's how I make it (slightly different than his mom):

marinate tilapia fillets in white wine, a lot of crushed garlic, and some garlic salt.

pat on breadcrumbs mixed with parmesan cheese (Progresso Italian breadcrumbs, or panko...I usually use panko) and dried parsley.

Pan fry in olive oil (or butter if you must) until golden brown on each side. If the filets are thick, make sure you cook them enough.

mmm...

Sautéed Tilapia Fillets with Lime

INGREDIENTS

1 to 1 1/3 pounds tilapia fillets, about 1/2-inch thick
3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
Salt and pepper
1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 Tbsp. lime juice
1/2 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. olive oil
3 green onions, chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

Rinse the fish and pat dry. Put the flour on a plate and season it with salt and pepper. Dredge the fillets in the flour, patting to remove excess. In a small bowl, combine the garlic, wine, lime juice and butter, then set aside.

Heat the oil in a 10- to 12-inch frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the fillets without overlapping (you may need to cook in 2 batches). Cook until golden on the bottom, about 3 minutes. Turn the fillets over and cook until opaque through the thickest part, 1 to 2 minutes more. Transfer the fish to a platter and keep warm (cover with foil or place in a 200°F oven).

Add the wine mixture to pan and boil, scraping up cooked bits, until reduced by half, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the onions and heat on low about 30 seconds. Pour the sauce over the fish and serve.

We love Tilapia here. I buy a big bag at sams for under 10 bucks and its enough for two meals. They cook quick because they are thin. I usually either fry them in olive oil with a batter on them, or I add them to a pan with butter. Add salt, pepper, crushed red peppers and garlic. Serve it over basmatti rice, its so good make sure to add some of the juice to the rice with the fish.

We buy Tilapia from Sam's too and love it. Good suggestions on this thread - I'll have try some new ways to fix it. We often broil them with a little bit of butter, Mrs. Dash's seasoning and lemon or lemon pepper seasoning. Simple but I like it.

We also buy the frozen salmon filets from Sam's - excellent.

We LOVE it here too I usually bake mine couple of very easy quick ideas here

This one I just came across last week

brush the fish with about 3 T lemon juice and 1 T butter mixed together then spoon about 3 T of BBQ chips over the top of each piece a little bit of crushed garlic would be good too I think. Bake at about 350 for 15 to 20 mins till the fish flakes easy with a fork.

1/4 c of crushed butter crackers (ritz type)

1 c of your favorite kind of cheese shredded

You can add a bit of paprika if you like it. Some black pepper. A clove or 2 of crushed garlic.

Cover with foil

Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 mins of course don't for get to grease pan when baking fish.

This is one of our favorites.
