Tiki Room: Under New Management?

:wave2: Sorry, but I like the Tiki Room. I guess just going in reminds me of when I went with my parents when I was 12...even though it has changed. I am a big fan of the newer technology, but in a busy MK day - I like to sit through this show. Not everything has to be the biggest and best for me to enjoy it, and part of the magic to me is seeing the familiar. It's why I like COP too.
Tigger22,

I think you are right on this. :thumbsup2 The main reason I love Disney and all of the old and new attractions is for the nostalgia. When I'm there, in the parks or on individual rides, it takes me back to a time when I had no cares in the world. I had wonderful parents who cared and were fortunate enough to bring us to WDW. Now that I go with my children, I'm creating the same time, memories and feelings for them.

And for the record.... COP is yet another favorite as well :)

We happen to love the Tiki birds too!... Never saw the "old" version, so we have nothing to compare the new one to... probably better that way from the sounds of it... We will be introducing our girls to the Tiki Room in a few months... :woohoo:

Although I agree 100% that the original Tiki Bird show should never have been taken down, I have grown to have some appreciation reluctantly for the new Tiki Bird show when it occurred to me that it's really a self-parody of Disney's constant need to change whatever they think isn't getting crowds. For instance, there's a line from the new show saying "If you’re gonna keep your jobs, you’ve got to get hip."

I remeber going to the old Tiki room and feeling bad when people walked out!

I thought the Tiki room was "been there done that" for my family, but last trip DS-age 11 INSISTED we go to the Tiki room AND Carousel of Progress. I loved that he wanted to do the traditional old fashioned rides!

(P.S.- I think he has a connection to the Tiki room because when he was 2 months we went to get out of the heat and to feed him. I nursed him during that time-there was NOONE else in there except DH and I and 3 people across the room, so it was very convenient. Maybe he has repressed memories of Tiki Room and mom food. A little Fraudian or what?)

I'm the biggest loser of all: I've never seen the Tiki Birds--old or new!! :scared1: :duck: It's on my list for this trip . . .

And what is this CITRUS SWIRL you speak of??? Never done that either. Sounds interesting . . .

And now DL has the Tiki Room:UNM, although I've never been to the new one.

Sorry, if I confused you. The one in DL is still the original. I just saw it in February. I just meant I preferred the UNM over the original. ;)

We avoided this attraction like the plague the first 2 times we went. We finally saw it the 3rd and LOVED it. Much cuter than I was anticipating. We have the park CD and the kids never want to skip that song. Guess I'm a loser, too! Whoo hoo for us!

It was ok but nothing worth calling home about and it well past its sell by date. In my eyes adventureland needs a complete makeover and start by updating the jungle cruise and bring in Disneylands Indiana Jones ride, thats quality and fits right into adventureland. However adventureland is well overdue for a refit so it might happen sooner then we think (i hope).

Ok I should not even type this because it shows how pathetic I am but ....oh well here goes....I never knew that Tiki Room was a ride (or show?) I've walked past it many times...by POTC I think, I guess if I thought it was a resturant or store (not that I ever thought about it). I'm sure I've never seen any lines to get in. :confused3

I thought it was fine until last month when my husband and I went to Disney Land and experienced the original which was WAY better. Now the one at MK seems obnoxious to me...

I prefer the original, maybe because when I first saw the original back in 1972, I was amazed at all that was going on. I think the new one is overly 'loud', a trend I have noticed in more than a few attractions.

Personally, I like that that Tiki Room is under new management. I agree that there are far fewer walk-outs now.

In many ways ETR:UNM is an outstanding tribute to the fact that attractions don't have to be incredibly slick to be appreciated. I do believe Iago sums that up nicely at the end -- just after the lovely Doo Wop from the surrounding Tiki totems. He sees the value in an attraction he had just slandered as "you are boring Tiki birds." As for the Tiki totems -- love that Tiki harmony!

I have also appreciated ETR:"The Original" at DL and find both versions to be equally enjoyable. We enjoy singing along to the "Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room" on the CD -- regardless of the rendition.

I, too, will join the group saying that I enjoyed Tiki Room UNM.

Went with DD14; she enjoyed it too. I had seen the original version ("old" Tiki Room) about 20 years ago, and I did not like it then; I liked UNM much better. We thought the music was fun and Iago and Zazu were funny.

Getting out of the sun and having a rest inside is also a big plus for this show!

There are fewer walk outs because the show is shorter than the old one.
By the time I cool off, and thus don't have an alterior motive to see the show, and work up enough energy to be po'd enough to walk out, it's over.

The Citrus Swirl is a yummy frozen orange juice swirled with vanilla ice cream soft serve. You can get a swirl or an all orange juice cone. They are a must-have for me. It's our tradition to do the Tiki Room and then have a treat as we exit. One year when we were there, the Citrus Swirl stand was being refurbished, so we tried the Dole Whip. We were disappointed. I know lots of people love them, but we prefer the Citrus Swirl!.

I liked the original better, but I've been listening to the anniversary CD and have put the Tiki room as something to see on my next trip.

THAT sounds VERY yummy!!!! I'm much more of a citrus than a pinneapple gal!! I must try this time! Thanks for the info!!! :wave2:

Count my husband in as Chief of the Losers. He leads a sing a long with my kids "in the Tiki Tiki Tiki room..." while I shake my head. I've never liked this attraction much, but it's a nice diversion from rides and it's nostaligic. The waiting areas at DL and WDW are completely different and DL has the original show.
