Tiggerdad's Pretrip Report: November 14th-23rd

Tiggerdad, does Emily or your niece like One Direction? They will be at Universal Citywalk Nov. 17. Might not want them to read this post.

As a matter of fact yes, but that's our sleep in late, relax around the Fort day before we go to MVMCP that evening. Thanks for the info though.

I am REALLY disappointed I wont be here for it. HA HA Just thought you might of wanted to know, in case it got around.

Westbeach I got you added onto the list.

Are your staying in a cabin or camping?
I'll literally only miss you by a few miles on the night of the 13th. I travel down Hwy 45 to Mobile and get on I10 headed east. I'll just pass a few miles north of you.

Thanks for the add, we will be camping in our 5th wheel. We may be on I10 with you. We are pulling out around 2pm on the 13th. We actually live about a mile north of I10 in the Malbis area.

OK, we won't pull out until around 8pm so we won't be in your neck of the woods until around 10. You driving straight on or stopping off somewhere?

We're staying the night at Casey Jones campground just south of Lake City. It's about a mile off 75. Are ya'll going straight to the Fort.

Yeah, I have rule about travel, and that's 12 hours of driving at most per day. Disney is 11 hours for us, so I just drive through the night while wife and kids sleep. Trust me, it will be 5 girls in that truck. I want peaceful travels, so that means going at night. All things considered, we should still arrive close to each other. Hope to meet ya.

The man who has 5 females in the truck...at the same time...going to Disney... yeah, I would be doing the same thing. LOL When I my daughter and my wife in the truck, it is stopping every two hours for a bathroom break. My wife jokes with me and says I got a 10 gallon bladder.

My trip down from NJ was pretty much fuel stops every 250 miles. Food was in a cooler in the cab of the truck. We would stop once every other Fuel stop for a quick sandwich. Then back on the road in 15-20 minutes. besides driving on Sunday, I felt this was a very effective way traveling.

Good luck with your drive down.

Thanks Sirenia, I need all the prayers I can get...

Got the camper washed today, cleaned out the inside yesterday. Now I can get out of the way and let my wife take care of the packing. She isn't necessarily better at it, but I let her think she is. LOVE YA HONEY! (taking a lesson from Ed on this one...)

My crown jewel of this camper is my outdoor kitchen. I spent most of the day cleaning it up and washing the outside utensils. Here's a pic:

You notice the magnets on the frig, we were trying to come up with a way to keep up with all the places that we ever take the camper. The solution was to buy magnets for each place and keep them on the outdoor fridge. As you can tell we are still "young" in the camping world.

I also snapped a pic of my back window decal, I figured it was fitting for me...

Well, tomorrow I'll start on the truck and getting it ready. Gotta get it cleaned, change out the oil and fuel filters, and wash the air filter.

Time's a ticking...

Very funny, brah. My pain is your gain.

Nice pix.

Bama Ed

I agree Tiggerdad, love my outside kitchen to. I have added a Disney touch to ours. Hard to believe that I managed without one on the old 5er.

Just got in from offshore in time to watch Alabama/LSU, hope they get their act together here soon. Hate to lose while I'm here in LSU country.

Good looking there 5er. I got the 2 burner stove instead of the microwave. If I want, I take the small microwave out of my shop with us to use at the outdoor kitchen. Just have to carry it inside the camper because I hate the idea of securing it to the countertop.

I understand that Tiggerdad, it has a swing around grill mounted on the back bumper, I used that most. I wish it had a burner along with the grill. Have you been workin hard on getting the camper ready?

Pretty much done with the cleaning and servicing on the camper. Working on the truck today and washing it tomorrow. So the work now is mainly packing things in, but my wife will do most of that on Thursday while I'm sleeping getting ready to run all night to get there.

Hey, I do have a question for you 5er, regarding your outdoor kitchen. We appear to have the same fridge. A problem I have is that the door of the fridge will open while going down the road (bumps I assume). I notice a strap attached to your back wall, is that by chance used to keep the fridge door closed or to secure something else? I'm just looking for ideas. I have tried magnet tape and suction cups with string, but no go. Then I saw your pic.

Just wondering

You can buy a baby proofing fridge lock. We had one but our DS learned to open it. Maybe bungee cords?

Yea that strap screwed into the wall to hold the fridge door shut and to hold it from bouncing around while going down the road. It works really good, just gotta be careful when you open the door and be prepared to catch falling drink haha. You might can find a strap with a snap at Walmart's.

We do the same when we go. Do the maintenance to my truck (my other baby) wash and wax it. Wash the camper, check out everything on it. Load it up, catch a nap and leave out around 1 am. The DW and DS sleep and I get a peaceful drive down, my wife sleeps the whole way. I usually have to wake her up on Toll Road 429. She claims the hum of the diesel makes her sleep like a baby. When I'm home in January I'll take care of most of that, a perk of having 14 days off from work at a time.

I posted on Snowmedic report that we all should try to plan a trip to the fort at the same time some time in the next year or so.

I'm up for a meeting anytime.

Just saw where the Alabama vs. Mississippi State game is CBS 3:30 kickoff...dang! Gotta figure out a way to get out of Animal Kingdom and back to the camper.

We also have an outside kitchen. I bought a roll of Velcro. One side is stick and the other isn't. I put the sticky on the side and front of the fridge in 3 places and use the non adhesive side (much longer straps if you will) to stick it closed. Keeps the door closed well, but things still shift. I think we're going to get some of the tension rods for in the fridge to keep everything in place.
