Tiered Ticket Pricing ... what would Walt think?

Do you know what I hate the price increases of? Mobile phones! 8 or 9 years ago I paid $300 for a top of the line Nokia phone. Prior to that I paid about $150 for a really great Alcatel. The last phone I bought was my Samsung Galaxy S3 which I got for about $700 because I bought just after the S4 came out.

I desperately need a new phone because mine keeps refusing to turn on and am looking at $1100 if I want an iPhone 6S or Samsung Galaxy S6. $1300 if I want the Galaxy S7.

Woe is me!

Yeah but your $300 Nokia didn't have enough computing power to conduct a nuclear launch

So peak prices are $124 at MK, $114 at the other parks. Sure, MK is the highest profile park, but what other difference?

Oh yeah, $9.75 beers. I guess they know how to make up revenue.

Phillies games are $7.25 and Eagles games are $8.25. Baltimore charges $7.50 and NY Giants charge $8.25. Those are the only major league teams I can speak for.

Epcot beer prices are slightly higher than Heinz Field (Usually averaging ~9.25), but Disney's soft drink/bottled water prices are significantly cheaper (almost 50%).

prior to last year the Mets didn't get a lot right, but they did with beer which they have multiple craft beer stands with really good bear for ~$8.25

It's the Mets. How much could they expect?
I forgot for a moment I am a Phillies fan and we just came off of 99 losses. For those like @WebmasterPete that is a lot of losses and no reason to go to spring training in Clearwater.

Good point - now that they are coming off a trip to the world series and resigning a start player who drives a different car each day to spring training (expect for today when he rode a horse, literally) I fulled expect the beers to cost $15

With Disney just announcing a price increase, which includes tiering on 1-day tickets and and expiration on unused tickets and there is definitely a lot of outrage on this - with the biggest complaints I have seen being that
a) this is unfair to people that are limited in the time of year they can go (teachers, people with kids in school, etc.) - so people are not equal
b) It's just getting too expensive for many families to go on vacation there

Now, I feel like there isn't the same outrage when sport teams raise their prices or movie tickets or Broadway shows, etc. So what in unique about Walt Disney World/Disneyland?

I think it is because of the vision Walt had and this idea (ideal) that he wanted everyone to be able to go to Disneyland/World (he does say "Disneyland is your land" in the opening speech) and a family trip to Walt Disney World has been so ingrained in our minds as something everyone has to do at least once - or almost that they are entitled to it

So what do you think Walt would think if he was alive (and not literally alive since he would be over 100, I think you know what I mean)? And given that the number one complaint I see is crowd levels what would he do to fix this? I know the easy answer is build more parks to spread the parks out but a) that would take a long time to complete and b) would that really help? WDW has more parks than Disneyland but crowds are worse in Florida than California - wouldn't more parks just bring more crowds and you have the same issue?

There has been a vocal outcry about match ticket prices in England for quite a while with LFC even getting a policy overturned by walking out of a match.

I personally think "what would Walt think" is an irrelevant question. Companies from P&G to Coca_cold to Disney move on beyond the vision of their founders. The same thing is starting to happen to Apple. The "what would Steve Jobs think" nonsense will hopefully die down a bit before his 100th birthday.

Tiered pricing was an inevitability that probably would have happened years ago if 9/11 and the 2008 recession hadn't slowed demand temporarily.

Porter and Pete both hit the nail on the head during today's show. It's the TIMING, more than anything, that makes this a tougher pill to swallow for some. Entertainment's being cut....DHS is basically half-operational.....construction everywhere....SWL and TSL years away....and they're raising the prices.

They really botched the timing.

Hey we will probably have around 99 losses this year for the Brewers...

Well, it was expected because the past two years they have raised prices in February.
