Arts and Crafts **Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

You guys are rock stars! I still haven't tried to make a set. Maybe this week.

I love the socks, Pixie! Did you attach the Mickey yourself? They are too cute! I love that your colors are so bright. Are the Tulip colors that bright?

Thank you :flower3: Yes I did attached myself. The tulip can be brighter if you use less water. :thumbsup2

Okay, The boys shirts did not turn out well at all, the colors did not stick they were not 100% cotton they were 50%/50% and it REALLY makes a huge difference. And we did figure out that if you use better black for Mickey you need to use a light color as your first choice. It just makes Mickey POP.

The Girls shirts are 100% cotton and the colors are VIVID !

The Boys Shirts 50%/50% Cotton Poly blend see that the colors are not as VIVID but we have the design down pat!!

Way to go!! Those shirts look amazing! Love the colors, and you are so right, the 50/50 makes a lot of difference, but well that's how we learn. I love the girls shirts, with the mickey on the side! Great job!! :) :) :)

Pixie...I wanted to say thanks for answering my post so quickly. :goodvibes I apologize for not posting earlier. All of your shirts are so cute but I love the halloween ones... My DD likes the pink and purple.:cool1:
I helped my friend do her shirts but I was a bit disappointed in how they came out. They were still really cute but they had a lot of white on them and the mickey heads were just okay...(a couple turned out really good but a couple...not so much) the bleach pen definitely helped that. :thumbsup2

I wish I had taken a picture or two of their shirts but they headed out to WDW early this morning. We were down to the wire finishing them. Other than not using enough dye is there a reason for a lot of white? I really tried to get the dye down in the creases and saturate the fabric. It was rather frustrating with the amount of dye in the kits...I thought false advertising. She bought 2 kits that were suppose to make 8 shirts each and we barely had enough to make 5!! (2 of those were smaller kid sizes). Perhaps we were doing something wrong...I didn't think so. Anyone else found this to be a problem? I am going to make 11 for an upcoming trip. I guess I better have enough dye for 30+ shirts:eek:. Is there a rule of thumb for number of oz of dye per adult shirt?

I am really impressed with the definition of your mickey heads...any tips for making those so distinct? Does the size of the basting stitches matter? Do you put the dye on the MM heads first or last?

Hi marrimouse... We are neighbors, also. I am in Loganville, my DH works in Covington - his office is in the Lochridge office park.
Your shirts are really cute too! ::thumbsup2 I am amazed at the difference in the colors on the 100% cotton vs the cotton/poly blend. Your mickey heads are really distinct also. Any tips?

Thanks again for your helpfulness and all the great advice!

Oh, your welcome, is always my pleasure to help ya'll.

Well, I think the amount of dye in the kit bottles are not enough for the shirts they say. Is no way you can make 5 regular shirts with those 3 bottles.
I see that most of you are having the same issue with a lot of white, you do need to pour the day in the folds to get more color but not a lot so you get some little white to see the pretty patterns where the colors meet. I just eyeball it, nothing else, the shirts depending on the size is the amount of dye, the bigger the shirt of course the more dye you would need.

About the heads, i guess is just practice, i do my stitches normal not to litte nor big, but I guess the smaller the better, and putting the right amount of dye, you can tell when you have enough, i do the mickey first then the rest of the shirt.

WOW! 30 shirts is a lot, you can get those bigger kits that have extra packets in it, and just take your time, it takes time at least I do :(

And yes, the shirt must be 100% cotton.

Good luck! ;)

Cherokeemama,
Thanks for the compliments. I used small-ish stitches on my Mickey's.(probably 4-5mm) In fact my dd did a couple of them and I pulled them out and did them over. I'm a stitcher and a quilter, so I'm pretty picky about it. Just pull them tight and be sure to segregate the mickey's from the rest of the dying. I dyed our Mickey's last, or not at all.
Have fun, we sure did and will be doing the boy's shirts over....

Hi...
I just wanted to say I am not making 30 shirts . I am making 11. If I were making 30 shirts I would be out of my mind!:scared:
I was just saying I think I will need to purchase enough dye for 30+ shirts since they sell inadequate amounts of dye.
Believe me the thought of doing 11 has me stressed enough.

I will let you know / post pics when I am finished.

Thanks again ya'll!

Thanks for the tips marrimouse!:goodvibes

It's Official we are changing the Cities name from Atlanta to "Atlantis" because if we get anymore rain we're going to be underwater...I swear!

No kidding, we are about to start building our Arc! I was watching the news, poor people in Paulding county :guilty: we live so close to lake lanier, not so bad here in Hall county.

Pixie & marrimouse,

Just checking in to see if you guys have floated away yet? :boat:

It is unbelievable...I have lived in the Atlanta area my whole life and I have never seen anything like this. The pictures from the downtown connector were shocking to me. :sad2:

There is no flooding in or around where I live but everything is saturated. A friend of mine has a 7" rain gauge...he said it had filled and he had emptied it 2 x's and this was as of Sun. morning. I saw where places W of Atl were getting 16+ inches yesterday.
The last weather report I saw was predicting rain through the weekend :umbrella:....

pixie, How is Lake Lanier looking? Is it full again?
I guess it would be safe to assume our drought is over.:thumbsup2 Hopefully, the sun will shine soon.

Stay safe everyone...

Thanks for the thought

We're East of Atlanta and are not floating, we are a good ways away from the Alcovy and Yellow Rivers so we're doing okay.

Pixie, they said that LL was 2.5 feet below Full Summer Pool this morning but, that's likely to change in the next 24-48 hours...
