Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

:hourglass: The countdown to Christmas is getting closer. I just finished sewing the shapes for the two shirts and pillowcase I'm doing. Has anyone delt with long sleeves? Do I soda ash (dip) the shirts again after they're done dying and if so, when? I'm sorry I can't read all of the thread .

Thank you for the mickey template PixieDust32, I appreciate it.

I just flipped back one page and saw that long sleeves are possible. Another question.... when do I pull the dental floss out of the garment?

Turned back four pages and read about the soda ash. My shirts are now dry (before dying) will that be a problem or should I re-wet them?
Sorry for all these questions :(

Hi.
You soak the shirts before the dyeing process, at least 25 minutes, then don't rinse them, just wring the excess water and twist them, put the rubber bands and then dye them.

You pull the floss after the shirts sat for 24 hours in a plastic bag, after the dyeing. When you are ready to wash them you remove the floss or thread and the rubber bands.

One of my latest...

And here a long sleeve, the process is the same...

You must soak the shirts in the SODA ASH before you dye them, if you haven't done that, you can do it now.
Do not rinse them, just wring them real good and the dye them.

O.k, my muffins, I mean shirts are setting. I can't wait 'til tomorrow for next step. :hyper:

This thread is awesome. :)

All projects are almost complete. I'm not too worried about the stitch pillowcase. My judges aka kids think Stitch looks fine. My shirts are still wet, I'm waiting for them to dry a little more before I iron them.

This shirt took on the browns more than I wanted it too on the other side, but each side of the sleeves blend either side in very well.

I'm thinking about using a bleach pen and make the swirl mickey heads on the pillowcase, however, do I need to rise the pillowcase out again after I do it? Help. :)

My tip. The smaller the base stitch you make the better. Yes, it was time consuming, but it is what makes the border of your shape.

They look fine, the mickeys look awesome. It looks like you needed more dye in the folds but now you know for next time. For being your first try you did super.

LittleBlue, Where did you get the Stitch pattern? I think it looks great. I agree smaller stitching helps create a better image. Now I'm interested in putting Stitch on shirts. You don't see to many Stitch tie dyed shirts. :hippie:

Stitch looks cool! Im thinking on making a couple pillow cases for my nephews. Thanks for the idea.

i took the advice of others and looked for an image on the www. Here's the one I used. I expanded the image as much as I could on MS Word and printed it. Traced the image like normal. I wish I had time to look for one with only one set of Stitch's arms. All well. I'm happy :)

No prob, you helped me out so much. The pillowcase I used was I think $7.00 at Wal mart. They were in the pillow isle. They're technically pillow case covers, but it beat the 100 ct. 50/50 blend pillow case in the bedding isle.

I made a pillowcase for one of my niece's b/c I wasn't sure if she'd wear a Stitch shirt. She's at that inbetween age where your not sure what to do or get her. Sorry to ramble.

Hi everyone! I have done a number of "creative" Mickey shirts in the past:

Anyway ... I am leaving on Saturday (I know! I leave things to the LAST minute) and I am thinking about doing a Low Water Immersion method (like the "Crystal Method" but with liquid dye) to make a mottled type of dye job. I have my 100% cotton tees which were washed and the Mickey Heads have been tied. I am going to the local craft shop for dye because mine is probably "stale".

So ... I will be soaking the tees in a bath of dye and then adding the soda ash fixative. My question is: should I do my Mickey Head FIRST or LAST?

I did a cold rinse on my t-shirts this morning. I left them submerged in the solution for about 13 hours and they came out really dark! There is a really nice mix of colors (so far) and I am pretty happy with them. The only thing is that my DH's Mickey Head leaked and some blue got on Mickey :(.

Here's a photo:

(Sorry, it's a crappy iPhone photo)

So now ... what to do? Should I bleach the Mickey and then dye it red like I was planning to do? Or should I just let him be different and keep the light blue dye job on the Mickey as a contrast to the dark blue? Surprisingly enough, my DH is the one who will wear his shirt at home (he has his paste "swirl Mickey" on right now), so I want his to be the best.

You can bleach it, but it would also look nice with a different tone of blue.If you feel comfortable doing the bleach go for it, but be very careful, I would do it after washing it and drying it.
