I've heard for years and years that the tie dye cheesecake at Pop Century is completely awesome so we had to try it this past weekend when we stayed there. I'm bummed because none of us really thought it was so special at all. I seem to remember old photos showing it as a real wedge of cheesecake and people used to rant and rave about how delicious it was. Now it's in a little round plastic container and has kind of an odd texture to me.

Did they recently change the recipe as well as the way it's served?

Several years ago, I tried the tie-dyed cheesecake and, I agree, it does not live up to its hype. It was dry and unflavorful. The King Cupcake, on the other hand, is tremendous! Banana, chocolate, and bacon...yum!

I'm not sure about the recipe but they changed the serving style and size over a year ago. This was the late great tie dye cheesecake:

I haven't had the heart to try the new tie dye pudding cup. Sigh.

But the next time you get to the POP, check to see if they have the King Cupcake. Banana and chocolate cream. Candied bacon on top. Its still great. Just like Elvis.:-)

That's how we felt too! Dangit.... We'll have to go back sometime for that cupcake ~ sounds interesting!

Oh my goodness! Your photo says it all! That's what I thought it was going to be and when DH and DS came back to the room with those little cups, I was like...

Yeah back in the olden days when they weren't trying to find the cheapest way out and it was actually cheesecake it was awesome. Really miss that and the Twinkie tiramisu.

The food at the POP has really changed over the past few years. And not for the better. They used to have tasty, fun retro-styled goodies like Mom's Night Out Fried Chicken and the original tie-dye cheesecake. When the menu was overhauled to introduce supposedly healthier items like wraps & flatbread pizzas, the fun theming as well as taste went out the window. The food at the POP used to be part of the POP experience. Now its just generic. I still love the POP for its relatively affordable, safe and clean rooms. The POP also has one of the best, most efficient bus systems on property. I think the POP bus system is superior to most if not all moderates. POFQ may be the exception. However, I find that I rarely eat at the POP now because of the menu changes. I eat in the parks, at DD or walk across the bridge to AoA. The only thing I make a point to get now at the POP is the King Cupcake. And that's kind of sad. Fingers crossed that POP goes retro again a la Back to the Future.

Aww, it sounds like it might be a good thing that I didn't eat there way back when because I really have nothing to compare it to at this point. We had their Chicken Pot Pie the other night and it was pretty good - we were actually supposed to have dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern but I was SO sick that night so we went back to the room instead.

I always think it's so fun when there are very special treats at certain places at WDW so my DH picked those up. It's too bad when so many people loved something and they get changed to something similar but not as yummy.

This worked for me at Coral Reef. I ended up really enjoying my meal. Sometimes we're just better off not knowing :-)

This is so true! I miss when they had the turkey dinners, meatloaf, and other "Mom's" cooking! We used to actually enjoy eating several meals at Pop, but now it is just barely passable if I'm hungry enough and not leaving the resort.

We LOVED the turkey and dressing and thought it a really great meal. We were disappointed it's been turned into a sandwich.

i love love love the tie dye cheesecake but i do have to admit that since they started putting it in the circle containers it has tasted slightly less amazing.

i feel like they may have changed the red velvet cake recipe which is the bottom layer of the cheesecake.

I haven't tried the tie dye cheesecake but absolutely love the King cupcake! We're staying at AoA this year and I'm planning a couple walks over the bridge to get a King cupcake and try the Pop-Tart breakfast sandwich!

My DD21 is super pumped for the tie dyed cheesecake!! I hope she's not disappointed...

We loved the food at Pop last fall when we were there. And we both liked the tye died cheesecake. I think I nailed the two issues people have with it now. First - expectations for it are really high based on all the reviews of posters. It's like going to see a movie every critic gives 5 stars and you go in expecting the greatest movie in the world and then you feel a little let down. It's still good / great but not as great as you imagined. The second issue I see is that the tie dyed cheesecake now appears to be baked as little individual cheesecakes, instead of part of a larger cheesecake that is cut up. I really think those baking differences in sizes mess with the taste.

I had huge expectations for the cheesecake before it was baked in the round containers. It was just ok then. I LOVE cheesecake. I thought it was dry and needed more flavor.
But, I absolutely think it was better before it started being baked in plastic containers.

I've only experienced the tie dye cheesecake in the round cups. It wasn't anything special except for all the food coloring. I wish I was able to experience the cheesecake when it was sliced and looked awesome. This trip I want to try the king cupcake, it sounds amazing!

Check to see if AoA still has the strawberry cheesecake on a stick...if so, save a little room for that one. Maybe enjoy it on the way across the bridge for the cupcake!

Ive noticed lots of things getting over hyped here!e My # 1 unbelievably over hyped Disney item.....Jungle Juice. Its literally Minute Maids juice you can buy at the grocery store or Walmart.
