Tide Pods / Gain Flings

I heard the same thing about the laundry pouches, so I avoid them because of that, and because they're usually more expensive per load than regular detergent. Incidentally, the last time I bought dishwasher detergent, I bought the little pouches. (I typically get either powder or liquid.) I'm only half way through the Sam's club sized container, and the dispenser on my dishwasher has already gotten clogged 4 times, and I've had to pour boiling water in it to unclog it.

Oh, and I'm jealous about your 178 loads of laundry per year. We do 13 to 15 loads of laundry a week (family of 4), which is 676 to 780 loads per year.

I love the flings, but I have noticed once in a while its does not all dissolve and I have had a piece of the plastic on a sock or shirt..So I have quit using them and have gone back to my detergent.

Huh, I really like it and Consumer Reports rate it second only to Tide. I find it works very well.

I don't like the industrial one, but the Tide alternative I really like.

I bought the Costco Kirkland's liquid detergent a few years ago and didn't care for the scent or the way clothes came out and suffered through a huge container of it. I tried...I really tried to like it, but it just wasn't for me.

Thanks OP, for mentioning the $10 mail in rebate. I went ahead and bought 3 boxes of Gain He Powder from Target yesterday (on sale - $14 for a 120 load box). I got the $10 Target card, had $1.50 off in newspaper coupons, and sent away for the $10 rebate. If I get the 120 loads they advertise out of a box it will cost me $.056 cents a load. Even if I have to use a little more powder per load it is still a very good deal.

I didn't know about the rebate until I read your question. Thank you very much!

Where do you get the mail in rebate? Thanks!

I found that one, but it says excludes the flings. Can it not be used then?

Well rats! I didn't even notice that since I bought Gain powder. Maybe the OP will check in and let you know.

ETA: I think OP was planning to buy Tide Pods which are not excluded.

OP here... yes, I bought the Tide Pods and not the Gain Flings which are not included in the $10 mail in rebate from P&G.

I've been using the homemade receipt from the How Does She . . . ? Blog, and it is excellent! I do use the optional ingredients. Much better than other homemade recipes I've tried.

Stats:
- Costs between four and five cents per load.
- Requires 15-20 minutes to mix up a big batch that lasts me a little over a year. Most of the time goes into grating up the bar soap in the food processor. The rest of the work is just mixing dry ingredients together.
- Safe for HE machines.
- The Borax prevents the frequently-mentioned stale smell in front loaders.
- Clothes are CLEAN!

She says in her blog it is $28 for 6 loads per week. That would come to .09 per load.

We can't use this anyway. We are on a septic and can't use any powdered detergent. We did the liquid, without the oxiclean. Maybe the oxiclean would make a difference, not sure. We also didn't use the fabric softener, but since that has nothing to do with actual cleaning, that wouldn't matter.

Omgosh really?? I didn't know you weren't supposed to use powdered deteregent with a septic system. :confused3 I've been on this one for 8 years and haven't had a problem......yet. Ugh. What a conundrum--the liquid makes my washer and clothes smell, the powder doesn't, but is apparently not good for my septic system. :scared1:
