We had been told that the sail in to Stockholm was spectacular so when I woke up at 6:00 I got up straight away and sat on the verandah to watch the scenery going past.

Once we had docked we went up for breakfast and took a few photos.

As we were leaving Stockholm at 1:00 we got off the ship at 7:45 and went to the tourist information desk in the terminal to find out the easiest way to get to the Vasa Museum. We were told that we needed the 76 bus, which we could find by following the blue line outside the terminal. We bought two bus tickets and set off along the blue line.

We soon found the bus stop, a bus came along within a few minutes and by 8:25 we were outside the Vasa Museum, which was just about opening as opening time was 8:30. The Vasa is an old Swedish Royal warship which sank on it’s maiden voyage in 1628. It was raised in 1969 and now sits in a part-preserved part-restored state in the museum.

As well as the ship itself there are models of how the ship would have looked when it set sail and exhibits of artefacts found on the ship and even models of how the sailors might have looked based on bones that were found when the ship was raised.

We left the museum at 9:50 and, after just missing a bus, we were back on board the ship at 10:35. We went up and laid on the deck loungers on deck 9 for a while until 11:45 when Topsiders opened and we went in for lunch, which today had a ‘Flavours of Scandinavia’ theme so there was things like herring, Swedish meatballs, trout etc.

After lunch we went along to the Goofy pool stage for the sail away party but it seemed that they were having some sort of issue with the sound system today so nothing really happened. The rest of the afternoon was spent either on the deck or, when it got too cold, down in the cabin until 6:20 when it was time for our usual pre-show drinks.

A change of door magnets as the cruise was coming to an end

The show tonight was ‘Walt Disney: The Dream Lives On’, a big production show looking at the history of Walt Disney and his films through pictures, video and song and dance numbers. It was probably the best show of the trip so far which was reflected in the fact that it was the fullest the theatre had been and also, predictably, it was the only show so far to get a standing ovation.

After the show we went up to get changed for dinner, which tonight was in Parrot Cay for the last time. Dad and I both started with the trio of salmon (smoked salmon, gravlax and salmon canape), then I had yellow pea soup, Dad had shrimp salad, we both followed up with elk tenderloin, then we both had lingonberry and vanilla cream and Dad had chocolate cake on the side.

After dinner we had a brandy each and we were in bed by 11:35 with two full sea days ahead of us.

That looked a really interesting museum, David. And I've made a note of the show you enjoyed - we're not overly keen on some of them but that sounds great.. Must say how amazing your door looks BTW - very impressive!!!

My DD's have always had a race to see who can get into the cabin 1st to see what towels had been left

I thought the model of the boat looked pretty impressive - and also thought it looked funny the way Chip n Dale were watching the big screen, even looking bored at some points.

Apparently it's something to do with the fact that the water conditions in the harbour mean that the bacteria that normally eats wood can't survive.
