Tickets with no date restrictions?

I am wondering if Disney still offers an option to purchase a ticket with no expiration date, or even to put the value of an unused ticket towards a future purchase.

Here’s the dilemma. We have a trip scheduled for mid-February, so my 60 FP+ window opens very soon. Yesterday my 16 yo DS suggested he might like to take a friend with him on this trip. However, I’m sure we won’t be able to get a firm commitment from the friend’s family until after the holidays. Once I have all of our FP+ selections made in December, I don’t want to have to go through the process of trying to reconfigure all of our FP plans if we add another person!!!

So, I was wondering if I could purchase a ticket with no date restrictions for the friend, use it to book the friend’s FPs, and then if the friend didn’t join us we could cancel his FPs and use the ticket at a later date. Or get the value of the unused ticket put towards a new ticket at a later date? If this scenario is available, could we use the ticket in the future for anyone? Or would it have to be the original name assigned in MDE?

If this scenario doesn’t work, are there any other suggestions about how to go about adding FP+ selections at a later date for the friend if he decides to join us.
Thanks

I know that you can change the date of the ticket as long as it's more than 24 hours before the start of the ticket.

I don't know the answers to the other questions.

You can add the “Flexible Option” to that 1 ticket.

Less expensive out of pocket to use the value towards a future ticket purchase. Names won’t matter as long as you are the account manager.

1. I am wondering if Disney still offers an option to purchase a ticket with no expiration date,
2. or even to put the value of an unused ticket towards a future purchase.
1. Nope.
2. Yes. All current standard WDW tickets offer that.

AFAIK they no longer offer tickets with no expiration date - you can get a Flexible date ticket but those do have an expiration (I believe they expire at the end of 2019 if they're purchased this year).

An unused ticket can be reassigned to another person, so in your scenario of applying the value of the ticket towards a future ticket, anyone would be able to use the ticket.

I thought when you purchase a ticket and assign it to a person, that person now owns the ticket. Only they can reassign it back to you.

The manager of the account can reassign any ticket linked to a Profile in their account.

Okay, I think I understand the process. Is this correct? I purchase a ticket for my son's friend with the same use dates as ours, put his name on our room reservation, and get him FPs when I get the rest of ours. Then, if the friend doesn't end up going with us, I cancel his FPs and his ticket would then show up as unused on MDE once we return from our trip in February. I can then assign the ticket to someone else to use for a future visit.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
But, if that ticket finally DOES expire, having never been used, its original price (value)
can be used toward the purchase of another ticket (for anyone) in the future.

Thanks everyone for the clarification. Just purchased my tickets!

Do the tickets have to be purchased from Disney? Or does this same thing hold true for tickets bought elsewhere too, like Undercover Tourists? I am in a similar situation for my upcoming trip this summer. We hope my son will be able to join us but he might not be able too, but when I can book fastpasses, I want to be able to book his with ours. My fastpass window does not open until April but I might be in the same situation then as I am now and similar to the OPs.

Thank you so much for the information! I have a room only booked now, but might switch it to a package if a discount comes through that is better. Right now, I am not sure where I will buy my tickets. Just trying to figure out my options at this time.
