So many questions.....

My families first trip to WDW is in November (can't wait, can't wait, cant' wait!) and I am looking for a heads-up on the routine. We are staying at WL for 4 nights and have a 4-day base ticket(s). I was wondering how the tickets, room key, and room charges work?

-Will we receive 4 tickets each, one for each day, or is it one ticket each that will "magically" only work at one park each day

-Are the tickets paper, a plastic card, etc? What size?

-Can you or do you use your room key for anything besides getting into your room (i.e. do you need it to get into EMH? Can you use it to charge food and gifts to your room account?)

-What do you need besides your ticket to get into EMH if it isn't your room key?

-Is there any other info I am missing?

Thanks for any help, I am just trying to get the lowdown ahead of time so the trip is smooth and enjoyable.

I believe, but I may be wrong, that everything will be in on your room key.
Each member of your party will get a "key" at check-in, the size of a credit card. You can use the key to charge to your room if you elect to at check-in (ie. you will have to give them a credit card or some other means to maintain a balance). The same "key is used for ID on EMH's. It will also contain your park admission for four days. Makes things easy! Have fun. :sunny:

Yes, your tickets will be on the room key, along with charging priviledges if you desire. At the Deluxe hotels you are given a $1500 sending limit, then they run the card on file and re-zero your balance. Enjoy your trip! Everything, food (Even the kisks now take room keys) can go on your room key, plus, if you purchase the first few days of your trip, your items can be sent to your hotel for you to pick up there rather than lug them around the parks. Another perk of onsite!

Tickets are coded onto your room key, and all of your days will be on there. The admission computers read the tickets in terms of number of days and park hopping - so if you don't have park hopping, if you try and move to a different park on the same day, the computer won't release the turnstile for you to enter.

Not really magical, but that's how it knows. :)

If you booked a package, your tickets will be coded to your room key - which is a hard-side, plastic, credit card-sized card.

If you purchased your tickets and room seperately:
  • If you pick your tickets up at the resort, they will automatically be coded to your room key.
  • If you pick your tickets up at Guest Relations, or a ticket window, you will get a very sturdy piece of cardboard like material. If you take that ticket with you to the resort, it can be coded to your room key so you only have one card to worry about.

This has been answered as far as charging to your room, but yes - you will need it for Extra Magic Hour. At the Disney-MGM Studios, they had handheld computers, and would scan the card and issue a wristband. I don't know if that's how it works at all parks, but that's the way it worked for me. :)

You only need the admission to actually enter the park. In order to get your wristband, you just need the room key.

I don't think so. I think you covered pretty much everything! :)

It will be smooth and enjoyable even if you forgot to ask any questions! :) The cast members are always very willing to help you out.

Have a fantastic trip!

You will be able to choose if you want each persons key to allow the abillityto charge to your room so if you have a child that you don't want to have the charging privalige make sure that there key is not encoded with it. I wish that there was a way to limit the amount for a childs account but still let them charge but as of our last visit there was not.

One other thing to think about:

Since you will be using your room key for multiple things (key, charge card, and park pass), you might consider getting one of these from WalMart to carry them:

You can also use these lanyards to carry FastPass slips and PhotoPass cards.

In all my trips (7 so far!) I have never had any luck getting them to put previously purchased tickets onto my room key.

So unless something's changed this year, I do not think they will put a ticket you bought elsewhere on your room key. :confused3

They will now. When we were there in August we were able to do this 2 different times. I have heard they have recently changed their computer system (or something like that) and now they are able to do it.

Wow, that would be great. I've heard others say you could do it in the past but they would never do it for me so I always had a room key AND a ticket to carry around.
