My DH and I bought 5 days of park tickets to disney. We are staying 5 nights so only actually planning on going to the parks for 3 days and spending time at downtown/boardwalk. I was told this would save us money instead of buying the park hopper for three days tickets but later I spoke with someone else about going to one park in the morning and using another ticket for another park in the evening and was told we can't do that. My question is if I am using a brand new ticket how would the person at the gate even know I spend the first part of the day at another park? Also if I purchased it why can't I use it when I want to.

You can only park hop with a parkhopper ticket.

You don't get 5 tickets with a 5 day purchase but one ticket good for 5 days, the base ticket is one park per day.

When you enter the MK in the morning with your ticket the machine will mark it as having been used at the MK. You are free to leave and return to the MK but if you try and enter a different park on the same day the turnstyle at the next park will see that you entered the MK in the am. Unless you have park hopper option the turnstyle won't open and you will be directed to purchase the hopper at guest relations or return to the MK.

They know because when you use your ticket you scan your finger at the turnstile. Each ticket may be used for one park entry per day. That's just the way it works. Disney's park, their rules.

You purchased 5 days on your ticket not 5 admissions and not 5 separate tickets. The computer system is sophisticated enough to track previous park entries.

I saw a couple turned away at Hollywood Studios last week for this exact reason.

If you use a brand new ticket (a different card) at the second park then it will let you in.

If you are spending one, two, or three days in the parks and hopping on exactly one day, then separate one day cards one of which has hopping added for about $37. is an acceptable way to go.

One 5 day card used for 3 days will result in about $20. wasted. To avoid that waste you can add more days and non-expiration to that ticket before going home, but that ticket must then last for another entire vacation.

You can use your tickets how you want to - but it doesn't sound like the ticket you bought is actually what you want to do.

When you buy a multi-day ticket you can go to a park for that many days. If you do not buy hopping and go to MK in the morning on a Monday even if you WANT to go to a different park in the evening it is still Monday and you are still on day #1 of using your multi-day ticket. So you are restricted to that same park.

Sounds like you want park hopping. Just add the hopping option and you'll be all set. Yes, more expensive, but obviously they cannot allow what you're suggesting or no one would get the hopping option, they would just do the less expensive thing.

Perfectly legit and perfectly spelled out wherever you might be buying tickets. So that if people do want to hop, they know they have to add that option.

A base ticket is one major (theme) park per day. You are allowed to re-enter the same park if you leave it on one day, but it can only be used at the one park.

Note that the ticket will state on it either "Not Valid For Park Hopping" or "One Theme Park Per Day". That should be a hint.

If you put the ticket in the turnstile of another park the display on the Guest side of the turnstile will be "ACCESS DENIED". The top line of the display on the Greeter side will give information about the ticket, and the second line of the display will say "CROSSOVER NOT PERMITTED". The turnstile will not unlock.

This is because Disney charges $8.00 per day over four days on a ticket, but charges $55 to allow hopping. It does not make economic sense for Disney to allow this.

If you actually have multiple tickets (more than one physical ticket per person) as opposed to multiple day tickets, you can use these tickets for multiple entries. But it makes absolutely no economic sense as a separate ticket costs a lot more than adding hopping to a ticket.

Or, as I have occasionally told Guests who were arguing with me about using a different day on the ticket: (note day of week stated can vary)

The turnstile computer thinks today is Friday. The turnstile computer at the other park also thinks today is Friday. The two turnstile computers talk to each other. If you can convince this turnstile computer that today is not the same Friday as the other computer thinks, it will let you in.

The cost to add hopping (or WPF&M) is $55 ($58.58 including tax) per ticket. It does not matter if it is adult or child, two days or ten days, first day of use or last day of use, the price is the same. (For a Florida Resident it is $27 plus tax.) (Note to add hopping to a one day ticket is $35 ($37.28 including tax).)

So if you are not sure, don't order them. If you find you do need them, then upgrade your tickets at any ticket window or Guest Relations Office. It only takes a minute or so.
