We are getting ready to buy Flight tickets on United for May. If they go in to bankruptcy how will this affect our tickets?? Do they keep flying or can you get a refund or change airlines? Have not been on United for a while.... Thanks...

Well they are already in bankruptcy but I don't see any indications they will quit flying.

If you buy on a credit card you can dispute the amount and probably get a refund should they actually quit flying. Other airlines must honor the tickets on a standby basis for a small fee (I think $50) if they quit flying.

I don't think I would be too worried.

United is in bankruptcy, but I'm confident they will not stop flying anytime soon. They are a large enough carrier, that if they did, arrangements with other airlines will be made, possibly for a nominal charge. Right now, though, I'd be more concerned about them cancelling the frequent flyer program or something like that, but any cancellation of all flights is a long way down the road.
