Tickets non-transferable!! Upset. Can someone explain this policy?

Save any unused days for another trip later in the year, that is what we do. They don't expire during the promotion period they are purchased in. We used 2 days from our 4 day tickets, that we bought last October, in March.

Can anyone verify this? Most tix sold today expire 14 days after initial use.

True of tickets available to the general public. However, some special offer groups such as discount offers available only to FL residents and the military have different terms.

I think Crostofer is referring to the Military Salute tickets which are in that group:

My f-i-l bought the military 4 day passes for the entire family but two people in our family are leaving a day early and won't use a day on their pass. I wanted to reassign their extra day to a friend who lives in the Orlando area. Just read on the Disney site that you can't do this. I think Disney has taken this too far. The tickets were paid for and we should be able to pass them on to who we would like! Can someone explain to me why Disney can get away with this and how they justify this policy?

They haven't gone to far, they were already there. Been the policy, is the policy, will probably always be the policy. You bought a "ticket" which is a physical thing, but that ticket is only a representation of permissible entry, Disney owns the park and controls the 'entry' policy. So no you are not allowed to do whatever you want with them. By purchasing the ticket you agreed to abide by their policies.

....if I buy regular mmw tickets when do they expire? I used to buy no ex tickets but those are gone now. If I buy tickets now and don't use them until next year can I do that as long as we use them all at once. Thinking about buying now for next summer in case of another price hike. TIA

MYW tickets expire 14 days after first use.

If you don't USE them, they will stay fresh and ready for use at any time.

Many guests buy tickets in advance of an anticipated price hike.

Tickets expire 14 days from 1st day of use. (although that might be 13 days + 1st day of use).

Robo will know for sure.

So fast, HAHA.

It's one of those FAQ kind of things. ;)

The military passes are ,I believe, to be used only by members of the immediate family of a serviceman/woman.
If the person you want to give the ticket to is in the military then they could get their own passes based on the criteria set forth by both the armed services and Disney at the discounted rate. However, if they are not and attempted to use the pass anyway, they would not be allowed to.
The basic ticket is also not transferrable but I think more people actually can slide past that.

The tickets have to be activated by the military member or the spouse of a military member--but the ticket can be for anyone. I am the spouse of a retired military member, and I have gone on a few "girls weekends" to Disney and bought and activated the military passes (the 4 day, $178 promotion) for my friends and I. The employees I bought the tickets from (once it was the ticket booth at Hollywood Studios, and the other time was the Shades of Green ticket office) knew that I was buying for a friend--I'm sure they would have told me it wasn't allowed if it wasn't. :)

There's too much fraud associated with handing off partially used tickets to another party. Every scam artist and his best friends used to acquire partially used cards cheaply (typically from families gassing up on their way out of town) and reselling them at the gas station to bargain hunting folks for considerable profit. With the advent of plastic ticket media, the person looking for a bargain could pay $$ for a partially used ticket, then find the card was actually totally used up at the WDW gate. Not to mention, the bargain hunter would be in trouble with Disney Security.

Disney came up with the biometric scan with ticket presentation, so this resale couldn't be done. Away went the scammers.

The 4-day Armed Forces Salute tickets are deeply discounted. They are also strictly controlled to head-off fraud. The FIL has to present his military ID and other info to get the tickets. The people receiving tickets from FIL's allocation have to present name, address, city, DOB, phone #. Disney records this info. Then each person goes thru the biometric scan at entry. If your FIL's ticket was presented fraudulently at the gate, it might reflect on your FIL's future privileges. Something to think about.

Also, a person in Orlando has WDW Florida Resident discounts available that the typical Military WDW visitor doesn't have. So, not a great need there.

The AFS tickets are good for approx one year. In 2015, the expiration date was extended from Oct 3rd to Dec 20th, and the max ticket purchase was increased from 6 tickets to 12 tickets. This gives the military person, or family/friends who have been given this ticket, more time to use it up.

Actually, the 4-day AFS military tickets can be used by family and friends. The military member or spouse has to personally request the tickets and show military ID for their activation. As posted above, each person receiving a ticket has to give Disney their name, address, city, DOB and phone #.

All Disney tickets are non transferable after they have been used for entry. This is not a new policy, nor is it specific to the armed forces salute tickets.

You do not have to be family of a service member to use the afs tickets. You just have to have a service member with you at the time the tickets are activated. Military ID is not needed for entry after activation.

A long time ago, in the days of cardboard tickets and rubber date stamps for each use, the tickets were good forever. It was a good strategy at the time, because, hey, you'd get home after using just four days on your five day pass, and this piece of paper would burn a hole in your filing cabinet, reminding you that you absolutely needed to go back to use up that last day. And buy another pass.

But they were always non-transferable, even in the days when enforcement was nearly impossible. And now, I guess there's too much planning support and too much internet connectivity for that remaining day to act as a motivator for a return visit, instead of a way for someone else to save money.

All the PP's are correct. To put a different (concrete) perspective on this and why Disney does not allow it, here is what Disney does not want:

1) I purchase a 10-day MYW ticket for $377.
2) I go for 5 days (the cost of a 5-day ticket is $322) over the course of a 7-day stay.

I sell my remaining 5 days that cost me $55 to someone I hooked up with on the internet who is staying for 7 days right after me for $150. I make $95, they save $170.

You only want to give your day away, but I assure you that if it was possible for you to transfer your day and give it away, the above scenario would play out far more often than people simply giving away their extra days.
This. Because for any of us wanting to do a reasonable thing, there are many others out there just waiting to make a mint in a shady way.
