Tickets for MVMCP vs. saving $350???

We've gone to both the Christmas and Halloween parties several times, DH prefers Halloween and I prefer Christmas. We even went to the pirate and princess party with our grandson, we've enjoyed all of them but I do have to say the cost increases are getting out of hand. We're leaving this weekend for our annual November trip, we're planning on attending a Christmas party but are waiting to purchase tickets, if the party is close to selling out I'm not interested.

Hijack - DS and I are going to Universal in Dec. The Sunday we are there is a MVMCP. I am toying with the idea of going not for the party stuff per se but just to go to the MK, see the Castle all lit up, ride the rides, etc.

Would you do it?

Wednesday, Nov. 12, should arrive at Cabana Bay around noon. Heading to either UO or IoA for the rest of the day.

Thursday, Nov. 13, back to the Universal parks until about 2:30, then hopping in the car and heading to MK for MVMCP. Plan on being inside the park as soon as they allow the party guest in at 4:00pm. Just bought our tickets about 15 minutes ago!

Friday, Nov. 14, finish up Universal, then fly back home on our 8:15pm flight.

What cards are given? We have gone to the party several times and never got a card. Do you mean the ticket itself?

Still trying to decide if we want to go again this year.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is a game where you are given free cards (excellent souvenir). For the holiday parties, they release a special holiday card you can only get at the parties (except when there are extras...sometimes handed out after the parties).

SOTMK has only been around since Jan 2012 I believe. Elsa is currently selling for $25-$50/each.

How do you find out if the party is close to selling out?

Personal opinion- I did it two years ago and it was NOT worth it.

If for no other reason, it was CROWDED. They don't depict this in the pictures, it looks like it's a ticketed event in the pictures (which we all know that it is)!!

There were people EVERYWHERE to the point where it was difficult for little ones to find a place to watch the parade on Main Street.

In my opinion, I would not spend the money.

I just went to a sold out party and it wasn't crowded at all. They sale roughly 30K tickets to these parties and an average light day at MK is in the 50k range.

I love the parties. Rides were walk on (7dmt was only 30 minutes) and the fireworks are amazing. The parade is super cute. Nothing beats seeing Santa at WDW.

Candlelight procession was just a "massed choir" - groups who learned the show at home and came together that night. Extremely disappointing. Very amateur. Unless there is a celeb narrator you love I wouldn't waste my money on a dinner package for that - just walk in

Our family could not possibly disagree with this more, so OP if you haven't done the Candlelight Processional we would highly recommend seeing it for yourself at least once. CP is the one splurge we do every time we go at Christmas, and we actually do it twice each trip. We get a dinner package for both nights we go, and we go to the latest show. The dinner package lets us skip the 1-2 hour line (so then you don't hear the whole show that goes on while standing in line), and it lets us sit up close to the show where we are fully immersed. The Voices of Liberty sing with a full choir (made up of both WDW cast members and high school choirs) behind them, and there is a full orchestra that is nothing short of perfect. The main singers do not just learn the songs at home and then show up. My dad has been moved to tears every single time we've seen it, which at this point I think is 8 times. It is very professionally done in our opinion and very worth the extra cost.

Thanks all! We decided to not do the MVMCP or book a dinner package for CP this year. Took that money saved and added Memory Maker to our tickets instead! I think we can make some great memories without the extras.

Maybe someday, when the kids are grown, my husband and I can go to the CP by ourselves. I think I would enjoy it a lot.

We had our first trip during the Christmas season last year and did not miss the party. It was just the two of us so we did the CP pkg for the first time and absolutely loved it! There is Christmas everywhere you turn! Have a wonderful trip!

We just got back from WDW in October and did the Halloween party. I so wish I had that $350 back. It was on our last night there. The kids were tired and we would have been much better off just hanging around the resort.

It's crowded and overpriced.

I did it once and will never do it again. Neither of the parties is worth that much money, IMO.

You won't miss anything by not going. For that money you can get an excellent steak at Shula's and then some.

Be sure to tour the hotels.

We have never been to the xmas one but the halloween one is worth the price to us.

Now im a firm believer in try it once. So my advice is go. If you dont like it then you can always post with the don't waste your timers for the next is it worth it post.

Would you do it?

Absolutely. We spent a week at Universal in late October and went to a MNSSHP party one day. A poster on another board recommended this strategy as an excellent way to experience the MK, and she was right. Much cheaper than a normal one day ticket. Ride lines except for 7DMT were relatively short, and we got plenty of candy while trick or treating. The other party stuff wasn't a priority. I'd definitely do it again, either Halloween or Christmas.

But if I already paid for a multi-day Disney ticket, there's NO WAY I'd pay extra for a party ticket.

The Halloween Party? We have never found that to be overcrowded. We have enjoyed it each time we have gone.
