Tickets and fast passes

In order to use your tickets to get fast passes do they have to be scanned first at the gate? I will have my ticket and my MILs ticket with me in the park before my MIL even arrives in Anaheim. Is it possible to use her ticket to get a fast pass or will it not let me because it has not been activated yet? I suppose I could activate it for her if it does need to be. I just wanted to see before I either, a) tried to use it for a fast pass and it wouldn't let me or b) went through the extra trouble to activate her ticket and I didn't need to Thanks again!

if DL is anything like WDW you will not get a fastpass from a machine from a ticket that has not been activated at the entry gates. I have seen several people on the WDW boards asking this question and I guess the only way you could activate the ticket is if you had a sympathetic CM at the entry gate that would let you do it. Do NOT activate her ticket!!! She won't be able to get in if you've already activated because she won't have a hand stamp. When you have park hoppers they stamp your hand when you leave for re-entry. Without the hand stamp they can and will refuse entry to your MIL.

No, you cannot use her ticket to get FP's, the ticket must be scanned before it can be used for FP's.

*whew-wipes brow* Thanks, I don't remember my hand being stamped last time we went, but that doesn't mean much at all Ok, that's a bummer we can't get her fast passes but not that big a deal, really. I was just trying to make everyone's first day very pleasant And I'm a planner and like to be really effecient, probably to a fault Thanks again!

sorry about that! they did away with any type of handstamps a year or two ago at WDW, I thought they did the same at Disneyland.

Oh no, at DL they definitely still use handstamps. The only time you don't get one is if you have an AP. Then they see your face on their screen when they scan it so if it's not you they know it! lol

You could use your ticket to get one FP for Space Mtn.

Then about 40 to 50 minutes later you could use your ticket again to get a second FP for Space Mtn for your MIL.

Just in case it's not clear, the hand stamp happens on the way out. So if you had already somehow activated your MIL's ticket (which I can't imagine they would let you do, even if you asked them), when she came in with it they would see that it was a re-entry, and might want to see the handstamp, which she wouldn't have.
