Ticket Upgrade to AP Question

I have tried to use the search function to research the answer to this question but am not convinced I have found a definitive answer. I'm someone can tell me whether either of the "solutions" I outline below will work or fail (or how they'd need to be modified).

Background: I bought a trip to Disney via Delta Vacations that included a 4 night stay at the Swan a 5-day flexible date park ticket with park hopper. I attached those 5 day park tickets to my hotel stay from Oct 31-Nov 4, made my FP+ reservations etc. (no part of ticket used). I had been considering upgrading those tickets to a Platinum AP in person during that trip.

Now, because of EEMHs and maybe wanting to go MNSSHP more than once, I am contemplating adding an extra trip this upcoming weekend Oct 4-7. This me want to upgrade to AP because I intend to go again at least once within the year I have the AP so the math will "work". The issue is I know that multiple tickets cannot be combined as a cumulative "credit" towards an AP, so if I need park tickets for this impromptu trip, what's the most cost-effective way for me to upgrade to an AP and use that as my ticket for both trips rather than buying and using two tickets? I can think of two possible approaches and would love for Disney veterans to weigh in:

1) I could go on this impromptu trip with only a hotel reservation and without buying a second set of tickets, delink my 5 day ticket from my Oct 31-Nov 4 reservation the first day of my Oct 4-7 trip, and then upgrade that ticket to an AP that first day. Since this would leave my Oct 31-Nov 4 FP+ reservations only briefly without a ticket attached to that trip, those FP+ shouldn't get canceled/kicked back into the public pool of available FP+, right? Because the AP would quickly be linked to my MDE and would trigger the system to see me having tickets again before the audit system would sweep through, see my ticketless FP+ reservations, and cancel anything? I haven't read anything that tells me that this wouldn't work.
Downside of this plan: No ability to make FP+ reservations before I arrive (and maybe the difference between 5-7 days ahead of time and 0-2 days ahead is pretty much zero value anyways?)

2) I buy a ticket for the Oct 4-7 trip, try to get FP+ today for that trip, then upgrade it to AP while there. I could delink my original 5-day flex date ticket either shortly before or shortly after I upgrade the new tickets to AP (anyone know if I HAVE to do that before or after?). Terms on the 5-day flex date ticket say it is usable until Dec 2020, so I could theoretically theoretically use this unused ticket late next year and upgrade to an AP or AP Renewal, right?
Downside: I think that for this scenario to be better, I need to already know I want to renew/get another AP next year AND/OR that I want to take a 5-day trip to WDW between early October and the end of 2020. I am not super confident in either of those two future-WDW trip scenarios at the moment, so I think I prefer scenario #1 to be possible?

So, does anyone see a flaw in either of the above plans or think/know if neither, one, or both would work? What would you do if you were in my shoes? Thank you in advance for your wisdom!

There is unfortunately a big difference between making FP reservations a week out and a day out. Not for the top top rides, which will be gone either way, but a huge number of people don’t make FP reservations until they go. things like Space Mountain, TSM, and Test Track will run through hours and hours of availability in their last few days.

I am not sure enough on your other questions to answer, but you asked for flaws, and these are 2.

Thank you for letting me know about how dramatically the FP+ situation changes close in, @CastAStone. Vital info!

Scenario 2 has the downside that you won’t get the AP renewal discount next year.
So the reason I thought that you coULD use a ticket upgrade to count towards AP renewal is I have seen reports of other people succeeding in doing so (I would link the the disboard thread I'm referencing, but the spam blocking system keeps stopping me - is there a way to assure disboards that it's own sit isn't spam?)
Is that now outdated information/do you know of there being a change in status on this working? It sounded to me like a path that not many people were aware of, so I was just curious if you once knew it to be possible and then the possibility died or if you never saw any reports of it being done successfully.

Thank you again for weighing in - I recognize your handle from finding many of your posts on disboards to be very helpful! :)

Also, Im not sure what etiquette is on @'ing someone you haven't "spoken" to in a thread before, but when I was trying to learn abut the mechanics of Upgrading an AP (and specifically an AP renewal0, @Robo seemed to know a lot and like they'd have advice on this situation! :)

1. Yes, you can.
2. There is something ODD going on with the spam blocker that has just started.
3. Nope.
4. Certain CMs can be less "help" than others. (And its the luck of the draw of whom you get to help you.)

Feel free to ask just about anyone here just about anything.

As a matter of preference, I like to discuss complex general questions out on the regular board, as if a discussion gets complex, other posters can weigh in.

Robo is the expert so I will edit my response so there’s not wrong info in case someone else sees this!
