Ticket upgrade question

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade from a one day ticket to a four park magic ticket? I am already doing three days on my itinerary, at a cost of $289 without parkhoppers. The four park ticket is $319 plus tax. My current one day peak is worth around $120 I think, but since the four park tickets are new, I am not sure if they allow upgrades from the regular 1 day tickets to them or not.

Call ticketing. While ticket purchases are non-refundable, because you purchased the ticket directly and separately from Disney, they'll likely make an exception and allow you to exchange the ticket for the new one over the phone.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. A fourth day being only $60 more than a 2 day hopper seems like a good deal. Worse case scenario I just simply purchase a four park ticket outright and save the one day for the December Orlando/Miami/Bahamas trip.

You can upgrade your tickets, but since you purchased them separately, they will make you wait until you get to WDW to upgrade.

What I was afraid of. It looks like my best option may be to just get new tickets outright.

I really hate that rule, too!

I get that, once upon a time, they did have problems with counterfeit tickets, but now they have enough security in place they could relax it. Still, it is a rule that is tailor made to favor locals.

Not entirely true.

If you purchased tickets from a third party, they can only be upgraded in person. If your tickets are part of a package, you can modify them before arrival. If the tickets were left over from a past package, they must be upgraded in person. But if you purchased them directly and separately from Disney, the ticketing folks are often able to exchange them over the phone.

That is against Disney policy- tickets bought separately, even from WDW, aren't supposed to be upgraded until arrival. However, CMs do like to accomodate, so you might get lucky when calling and get one to ignore the rule and do that for you.

Helpful. I have only purchased tix from Disney twice, with the other time being at the window for a Water Park ticket while I was down there doing an upgrade(didn't know at the time I could call) last month.

You will not be able to use a 4-Park Magic Ticket to hop between parks in a single day. The pass is good for 1 visit per day at each of the 4 theme parks. So Day#1 might be at the MK, Day #2 at HS, Day #3 at Epcot and Day #4 at AK. You would not be able to use two entitlements to visits two different parks in the same day. It's not the same as purchasing a 2-day hopper, which would allow you to visit any parks on each of two days.

The tickets also expire 14 days after the first day of use, so you would not be able to "save one day" for a December trip. These tickets have an expiration date of Sept. 30 , 2017 and must be used by then.

You misunderstood. I said that I could buy the four park ticket(a new ticket) and save my current one day ticket, if an upgrade is unavailable. My original plan was a 2 day with park hopper, which became 3 day no hopper, but now I am thinking I could squeeze a fourth day in if I plan correctly, now that the four park tickets are available for September. I do understand the restrictions.

The special 4-park ticket (as opposed to a normal 4-day ticket) has a strange and unique feature. You can use two "parks" on the same day. I don't think it's a published benefit, but we've seen reports of it working when these tickets were first introduced as a special DVC discounted ticket.

Do you know if I could send a friend to upgrade the ticket for me if it ends up having to be done in person? I have friends in the Orlando area that I would trust to handle this for me if that is possible.

Disney can be a little strict about tickets that are not on your personal MDE. What I would recommend doing, if you really trust this person, would be to "friend" them in MDE and transfer the 1-day ticket to their name. Then they can do the upgrade in person. The upgraded ticket could be transferable back to you under their MDE account since it is unused.

If the 1-day tickets are not linked to your MDE, you could send the ticket to your friend to do the upgrade and have them specify that they do not want to link them in MDE yet. They could then notify you as to what the ticket info is so that you can add it to MDE or you can give them access to your MDE so that they can add the ticket themselves.

Since I bought direct, it was automatically linked. One of the people I have in mind is a cast member(PhotoPass dept) I've known before she worked for Disney. The other is a friend from the boards. I figure pay them a little or give them a Disney gift card for their trouble. The latter is probably safer. My approach is basically to get the best value I can.

Do you trust them enough to transfer the ticket to them, pay them to upgrade it, and then transfer it back?

I am not someone who will trust just anyone. I would not have someone do this on my behalf unless I already trusted the person. The cast member friend would probably be my first choice since they would have no reason to steal my ticket(getting passes directly from the company), but this would be a contingency if I cannot get an exception over the phone.
