Ticket Upgrade Question

We currently have 7 day PH tickets from Undercover Tourist. We plan to get 10 day PH tickets. I've read the sticky, and here is what I (think I) know:

1) We will be credited the pre February 2017 gate price for 7 day tickets. (We purchased in December 2016)
2) We will pay current gate price for 10 day hoppers.
3) We can do this at the gate within 14 days of first use and before the end of day 7 of the tickets.

OR

1) I can mail my UNLINKED, unopened tickets back to Undercover Tourist (just confirmed with them on chat)
2) I can purchase my 10 day PH from Undercover Tourist now
3) I can link them to my account and be ready to make FP+ reservations

If all of my thoughts above are correct, I've done the math, and I come out ahead by upgrading my tickets at Disney. HOWEVER, I can only make FP+ reservations for 7 out of 10 days until I upgrade my ticket. Even if I upgrade on day 1 of my trip, those last three days will be slim pickings for the FP+.

So here is finally my question: Is there a way to upgrade my tickets via MDE once I link my Undercover Tourist 7 day PH to my account. Can I just add days, or must I wait? Can I call to do it?

I want my cake (extra savings) and to eat it too (get 10 days of FP+ booked).

Thanks!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 10 days right around the point where it makes more financial sense to just get an AP?

A Gold AP, and only if you live in Florida or are a DVC member, and then you have to dodge blackout dates.

There are a multitude of other factors to consider.

The AP offers:
Free Parking at the theme parks.
Free Memory Maker Photo service.
Discounts on certain meals and merchandise.
Option to buy "Tables in Wonderland" meal discount card.
Discounts on selected event tickets.
Discounts on selected resort rooms at certain times.

Alas, that is what I thought. Thanks for the info.

Yes, it is definitely not worth the cost of the AP for us as we cannot get a Gold Pass. We thought about doing APs and squeezing in another trip next year, but we have a 3 and 5 yo. With them paying "adult" pricing on APs, we just can't justify it. With the money we would spend, we could go somewhere else next year.

I'm in a similar boat that you're in. I bought 5 day base, and then realized, later, that I wanted 6 day hoppers. I bought them through a discount site, so now I'm stuck until getting to a park, which is in January. Thankfully, that 6th day is going to be a Keys to the Kingdom tour (I want to see the utilidors!), so having my FP ability crimped a little isn't as big of a deal.

While I agree it's not worth it to upgrade all of your tickets to APs, you might still consider upgrading 1 to an AP. You would still qualify for the restaurant and merchandise discounts for your whole party, and free parking, and free photopass for all of you as long as the AP holder is there.
