Disney to raise prices for second time this year

Walt Disney World said today it is increasing its base ticket price to $67 Sunday, the second price increase this year.

Disney officials did not say what is prompting the $4 increase -- which also affects prices across the board in the company's "Magic Your Way" flexible ticket plans -- except to say the new price is in line with the needs of the travel industry.

The base price went to $63 on Jan. 1, up from $59.75 in 2005.

The latest increase amounts to a 6.3 percent hike in the price of a basic one-day, one-park ticket to any of Disney's four parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios or Disney's Animal Kingdom.

"We're implementing this to better coordinate with the overall travel industry," said Jacquee Polak, Disney's director of media relations. "We believe we offer a great value and remain competitive in the market."

Historically, Disney World and Orlando's other two theme park resorts, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld Orlando, have raised prices within a few weeks of one another to keep relatively close. Universal went to $63 in January and SeaWorld went to $61.95 in December.

There was no immediate word on whether either of them expect to raise prices soon, though Becca Bides, SeaWorld's director of communications, said that park's prices are based on SeaWorld business, not Disney competition.

Glad I bought my tickets already. That is more money I will save.

Any experts with an idea of how much a 7 or 10 day ticket will go up? I still need to buy 2 and thought I could do that this week, have been busy getting ADR's and renting a car etc. Now I guess I better decide and order them tomorrow.

Isn't it interesting :
-- Prices increase just before free dining (for all those who bought 1-day tix)
-- Universal just DECREASED its ticket price with a special bargain package.

And they say it's in line with the competition??? Hmmm. More likely they found out free dining was going to be a bigger loss leader than the marketing suits planned and the extra loss has to be made up for somewhere.

Just thinking out loud.

I can only speak for my self but I have been to seaworld and I feel I get alot more for my dollar at Disney. Seaworld has two rides and the two times I was there one of them was broke. Plus you can't take your back pack on the ride and have to rent a locker. I don't know about universal never been there. I am a Fl. Resident and Disney has great discounts for us. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Also interesting that it's happening Sunday. I called today to add a ticket/dining package to our reservation and was told to call back Sunday for the 2007 package prices. We have a room only ressie for Feb. and there will be 3 of us for 10 days, wonder if the cost increase will be a big deal for 10 days? If I'm thinking right, $4 per day x 10 days = $40 x 3 people =$120.00. Or is there a price break for the additional days? Any expert opinions? That's a pretty big increase!

Now we know why the delay in releasing the 2007 package rates. From a previous post one of the reasons for the delay in releasing package rates was

"I was told I believe last week by Disney Travel that they wont be released until mid-end of september. They claim they are trying to make the things pefect for guests, so they are making choices on what to bring back/ what to drop, and what to add also whether the cost will or will not go up."

I guess by perfect they meant costs more... :rolleyes1. I just hope they do not raise prices again in Jan.

You know prices are going up and they have not even announced what the dining plan will be going up to. Even if it is the same 6% this will add about $10/day for a family of 4. Oh well, need to adjust the budget.

Needed 3 tickets for my trip next weekend, tried to order online for will call and Disney site won't let me. Prices come up as N/A. Looks like I will be at the Disney Store tomorrow.

Glad I'm a passholder.

That's going up too..

From allearsnet.com

New Adult Annual Passport goes from $441.98 to $462.21 (tax included); while the Premium Annual Adult Passport goes from $574.05 to $595.36 (tax included).

Hm. Looks like I'll be paying a little bit more for my May 2007 trip.
Unfortunately I am used to this. Disneyland ticket prices go up every year without fail.
Eh, Disney is worth it!

I love it how Disney can make new prices whenever they want...because honestly...who else is going to compete with them??

Yeah it was me that the cast member at Disney Travel said they claimed to be listening to the guests, and that it would be mid-end of september. Heck one CM told me the dining plan may go down in price, but she DID NOT want to say that for sure, but from another post I read on the boards it is going up by 1 dollar, and tickets are going up also. I need to add DDP, and 7 night Park Hoppers. It does not surprise me the price increase starts the day they start letting people book the new packages. :bride: This is our first time going to Disney and our Honeymoon so guess I will just suck the increase up. Maybe we will get lucky and get a decent promotion or something for us going in jan/feb or 07 year, but if they are jacking up prices already then it probably wont happen, and just the new p/p party will be going on plus that year of a million dreams contest looks to be all we will be getting.

Dread to think what I will end up paying for the passes. Over here alone the disney passes for 14 days is £600 which works out about $1000 for the 4 of us. Ideally a 10 day pass would have suited us. But we can't get one over here. The 14 day pass is £10 difference than the 7 day one.

I mentioned this in another thread: I did a little research this morning and apparently income and disposable income have increased in the first half of this year at a rate much higher than expected, so that probably accounts, at least in part, for the price increase. However, someone else mentioned another good potential reason: They may be trying to synchronize the price increase (which previously took place either in October or January) with the release of vacation packages. That makes a whole lotta sense. If so, we surely won't see another increase this coming January.
