Ticket Prices Increasing June 12th!

OK, my original plan was to book a room using the AP discount for September when it comes out and then purchase annual passes at Disney in September before we check-in. But now that they've gone up $20 each, I'm trying to figure out the best thing to do. There are two of us. Should I buy 10 day MYW tickets from UT, use them to get in to a park, upgrade them to AP, then check-in to our hotel? Would that work? That's a lot of steps, but I'd be willing to do it to save us some money. Is there another option that would work better?

There is a slight advantage to getting the AP vouchers mailed to you, in that you have the ticket ID info to get onto the passholder's web site, and can start getting the Mickey Monitor mailed, etc.

Would any of this be worth paying the extra money, in your opinion?

Worth is subjective...probably a lot of the information can be found online, but you can book AP-discounted rooms online if you have access, browse the special offers and stuff. May depend how far in advance you are purchasing.

And losing the AP voucher isn't really a worry either...as long as you have the credit card used, and/or the ticket info (which you should record for ANY ticket), the CMs can issue you a new one.

IF they even send the Mickey Monitor. Our delivery is always sporadic at best. Some AP years it comes. Some it doesn't. Other years we get 1 or 2, but not all 4. :confused3 If you tell them, they just tell you it's online. Not that you can use the coupons, if any, from the online addition.

The Everything About WDW Tickets sticky has been updated to reflect the new pricing. I have added two additional pages.

Page 18-B is a table which shows the cost per day for each ticket variety, base, hpping or WPF&M, hopping and WPF&M, and a second set with No Expire.

There is also Post #18-C which gives ideas for how to save money on the purchase of Annual Passes.

And an ongoing big thanks to you, CF, for keeping your information clear, consise, and up to date. :thumbsup2

Another big Thank You to Cheshire Figment. You are so good about keeping that Sticky updated and helping us through the complicated Disney ticketing system. :thumbsup2

Many of us have found your information and advice invaluable. Thank you. :worship:

We are going to WDW over Thanksgiving and have already booked a MYW package with 10 day PH through Disney using a PIN code that was emailed to us for a discount on the room. I have only paid a deposit so far. My questions are will the cost of the trip now increase due to the ticket increase? Also, we were considering changing the reservation to a room only and purchasing annual passes. Should I still change the reservation to a room only and buy the passes or keep the MYW package and upgrade when we're at the parks? And to upgrade, will we pay the difference between the new price of the 10 day PH and the AP or the old price of the 10 day PH that we already booked and the new price of the AP? I'm sorry if this was already answered. Any help or advise would be appreciated. We have never purchased APs before so this is all new for me.

No. By paying the deposit, you have locked in the base prices for your package.

If you change your package, then you will likely be subject to new rates. And that would especially be true if you go to room only and get tickets separately.

Your best bet is to keep the package, which preserves you paying the old price for the package ticket, use the ticket at least once, then upgrade to an AP at your convenience. You should then only pay the difference between the current gate price of the 10-day PH and the AP.

I will visit in October 2011 and May 2012 and my AP expires in January. I can't renew onsite in May? I have done this in the past, but seems it MUST now be, 30 days prior or after expiration? This leaves me, no way to upgrade from a PH?

:headache: I did my math wrong - bought the 6d MYW pass. I could have saved another $80 on the three had I done with a non-exp version of the same. Oh well, saving $100 is better than saving nothing ;)

Again, Thank you for all the info Cheshire Figment!

You wouldn't want to renew your AP in May 2012, even if you could, because it would expire in January 2013 and not May 2013. You would use the park hopper in May, then take the ticket to Guest Services and apply the value to a NEW AP.

Well, I wasn't thinking...no coffee, yet.;) I was concentrating on the price increase, between renewal and new..:rotfl:

Great, I will do that. Thank you so much for your help.

Ok so this seems impossible, but I've figured it out more than once and with the price increase it's actually going to cost us less money than it would have before the price increase.

The cost of the 10 park hopper tickets for 4 adults and one child that we had already booked before the increase cost us $1557. We were planning on upgrading to annual passes which would have been $2446 before the price increase. Now if we upgrade to annual passes at the park we will pay the difference between the new 10 day park hopper price ($1711) and the new annual pass price ($2554) which is $843. The original $1557 we paid plus the $843 to upgrade is $2400 which is $46 less than we would have paid for the annual passes before the price increase. Am I doing this wrong??? I keep looking at it and can't believe it's true but I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Are we actually saving money?!?!?!?!

Without checking all the numbers, I think why the numbers seem really weird is that you are looking at the numbers in the wrong way. The $2446 was the cost of APs if you paid out of pocket before the increase - that still goes up, to $2554. But when you look at the numbers later, THEN you are taking in to account the value of the tickets you already have, etc.

But you ARE right in that it will cost you less to upgrade to the AP than it would have before the increase, because the the longer MYW tickets are going up a lot more than an AP - the 10-day adult MYW base ticket went up $48 I believe! The AP only went up $20.

But before the increase when we would have upgraded our tickets to annual passes we would have paid a total of $2446 for the annual passes and now we're only paying a total of $2400 for them so the total cost is still $46 less, right?
