DW and I are going to WDW for a week in May 2006. I want to buy 10 day no expire passes but realize that Disney usually raises ticket prices around the first of each year. When this happens do they announce that prices are going up a certain day or is it effective they day of announcement. I want to put off buying the tickets as long as possible because I might buy an AP if I can get a good rate on a deluxe room instead of POFQ. Any thoughts or past experiences :cool1:

Your goals of beating the price increase and waiting as long as possible are not compatible. Price increases are not announced in advance. My guess is that you're safe until Jan 1, but that's only a guess. Unused tickets are good forever.

You may want to check the price of a annual pass it is probably around the same price as a non-expiring 10 day pass and your year doesn't start until the first day you go to the parks. Also keep in mind annual pass holders get huge discounts on rooms and other perks like discouts on extra activities like Dive Quest and lunches. We did this and went in Nov. 04 the Oct. 05 and really made out well.

Agree. Quite often any more we read about it here on the Dis the day before the price increase.
Our PAPs expire early January. We normally renew in December. But Disney can raise the prices anytime.

Keep in mind "the huge" room discounts are not guaranteed. If you get them, they are just icing on the cake.

And I read a rumor last week of the price increase happening December 1, this year. The fact that it was so far in advance made me not trust it, but it spooked me enough to make my purchase now, just in case, rather than waiting a month.

4 years ago I bought an AP so we were able to stay at the WL for $124 a night compared to the $ 200 they wanted for an AA rate. 8 nights saved us over $550, never used the AP again in 2001 but thought it was worth the expense to stay once in a deluxe. We are now booked in POFQ for the first of May with a AAA rate, if it happens again and makes sense from a $$ standpoint- GREAT, we would really like to stay at the WL, if not that's fine also. We have stayed at the PO resorts 4 times in the past and rate them an 'A'
