Ticket Price Increase Rumor

I understand that, but WHY?

Because it's easier to go after non-paying customers in court/collection if they are in state.

If it were open to everybody, there would be a series problem of people from out of state/country buying the passes on monthly payment, using them on their quick vacation, and then stopping payments.

Our So Cal passes don't expire until the end of September. I wonder two things -- 1) would they let us renew them now?, and/or 2) will they be allowing renewals later on, or just for the ones that expired in the last 3 months? I guess I will call to find out.

So I saw Ausdad's post, and ran to aRes to get tickets. We are going to be upgrading to AP for my family, but not my mothers ticket, so we are going to get dinged anyway. Their website keeps telling me my credit card is not going through due to fraud. 2 different types of cards, so I think maybe their prices are increasing this quickly as well.

I just saw this post tonight and went over to aRes Travel to purchase the last two park hopper tickets that we needed for our family, (buy 3 nights and get the 4th free) and I was able to get them at the old price! I'm glad I saw this thread. I think you may need to call your credit cards to make sure there is no fraud really going on.
Thanks to this thread for the heads up on the increase! It's not a huge difference but I'm always trying to save on our trip where I can and it got me off my butt to purchase the last of our tickets. All set for November!

Just curious....will the 'stops' on AP payment plan be available next year? That is when were were wanting to get our passes. Or do you think that they might stop doing the payment plans altogether? TIA

Everything I have read says that those who have them currently, will be allowed to renew them. It is the purchase of new SC passes that is suspended.

I am not understanding your question, I'm sorry. What do you mean by: "will the 'stops' on AP payment plan be available next year?"?

I was trying to help, but I don't know what you mean by "the stops."

If you can clarify, perhaps myself or someone else can help.

I checked many local grocery stores today and none of them had any annual passes just 1, 2, and 3 day tickets. I planned on purchasing the Southern California pass for my family in a couple of months and now I seem to be SOL!

My local Safeway's have LOTS of all types of tickets. They were all out of order so I had to dig through them to find what I wanted. I was worried I wouldn't be able to find Deluxe AP's but thankfully they were there and I didn't have to spend an extra $80 for our family!

You have a very good question. I'm sure there is a financial law somewhere they can't get around maybe for collections or something like that for non-payments. But the payment plan along with discounts for purchases in the park for AP's goes against the idea that they want to reduce passholders. If I were a business and didn't want as many customers buying a certain item, why would I offer them discounts and a special payment plan that others do not get?
So with that thought, maybe they will discontinue the AP discounts at the end of the year for some if not all pass types.
Going a little against their quote in the O.C. Register, it could be said that only making So Cal passes available for renewal to existing passholders may retain even more than before because they may be afraid of not getting one next time if they don't renew.
Disney has recently changed their passholder special event days to just those with passes soon to expire which also goes against what they are talking about reducing the numbers as well. Why give a perk if you want those people to "not" renew? I think it's the reverse. More will run to get the passes, including Deluxe at just over $10/month difference. This is what I think is really behind the So Cal pass being unavailable. They want to sell more Deluxe passes. Think about it. Also why advertise all over the ticket booths and freeway signs that you can get an AP for as little as $15.xx/month?
It's already a type of addiction we have about needing to go there to escape (I was asked about it once in a survey at the park). So making the So Cal pass unavailable may spur even more sales of the So Cal Select or Deluxe.
Only time will tell if I'm right. But one other item was on my mind... when I was a kid in the 80's, the lines at the park were about the same as now. I recall waiting 2 hours for Space Mountain then. I don't remember walk-on rides except for People Mover or the Skyway. I don't however remember all the strollers. When I look at old photos of Disneyland I don't see the mass stroller parking areas, which makes me wonder, where were they then? Or are more kids using them that are older that should be? Strollers in this quantity do make the park seem very crowded as you cannot walk around areas they are parked many times easily.

I probably had too much to say there... thanks for listening

Yes! In those days the line for Space was ridiculous. The last four trips or so (from the late 1990's on) SM has been practically a walk on, well at least until you got inside the building.

I don't remember strollers either. I know I didn't have one when I was little at the park. I was expected to walk, just as we are expecting our son to walk.

There is a picture of me in 1988 or 1989 in a disneyland stroller. They were the ones you could rent from disney. They were metal framed and had a very small square shape. The top shade covering part had these little white pom pom looking balls hanging around the top. They did not seem big at all but I had fallen asleep. I was between the ages of 3 and 4 when my mom and grandmother took me often. I don't remember anything except for the photo.

I think back then strollers were not as collectable as they are now. People in the new mommy world have so many options and if you want all the amenities (like cup holders and storage) you will have a larger stroller. I think before strollers were plain simple and took up a lot less room than todays jogging stroller which are not only bulky but long as well. And also what I plan to take on my next visit! :crowded: However, the park was A LOT smaller then so I'm certain many more kids walked then now days. My 4 year old would take all day to walk from space mountain to splash mountain. Time I'm just not willing to waste. And if I waited until he was able to walk it as quickly as my 8 year old then well, we may not be able to afford to go then. ;)

straight from the mouse's mouth:

Guests who currently hold a Southern California Annual Passport can renew it, as long as they do so by their expiration date.

I want to thank the DIS boards and Mice chat for the heads up on the increase. In addition, Mousesavers has been crying wolf for over a week….We purchased 1 Premium AP, 3 Deluxe APs and tickets for visiting family all before the increase. We purchased the APs from www.way.com and they were $30 (Premium) and $25 (Deluxe) less expensive than Disney! We also took advantage of the 4 days for the price of a 3 day PH ticket from Orbitz through Ebates. While several vendors have the slightly discounted 4 for 3 deal, using Ebates provided 3% cash back. While I was hoping or a larger cash back deal through Ebates, I didn’t want to deal with the increased prices. As of last night both of these on-line vendors has the “old” lower prices for both APs (way) and PHs (way & Orbitz). We will be having breakfast at the Plaza Inn so I got vouchers from Ebates/Orbitz. While they are no real savings directly from Orbitz over paying in the park, we will get 3% back from Ebates.

We’ve used both vendor for tickets before and had NO problems. We’ve also gotten several checks from Ebates for goods, activities and hotels booked through their portal…so it works too.

Go to Ebates.com and sign up as a member (free), log in as a member, search for Orbitz in the search box, click on the link to Orbitz (or any other vendor you choose) and shop as you would normally. The checks are processed quarterly. We don't work for any of the sites listed above, we are simply satisified customers.

Does anyone have a direct link to the Disneyland tickets on the way.com site? I can't seem to find them.

Yes. Although I went to renew my AP this morning and still got the old price...including the discount.

There has always been a grace period for APs within 45 days of their renewal date when a price increase occurs. So far Disney hasn't done away with that with this recent changes.

Ah. I never encountered this. Seem like a strange policy though.

Just tried to go on there and they are nowhere to be found. Updating prices, I assume.

Wow, they disappeared from www.way.com today! It was up the last time I checked last night, sorry about that. I hope they still offer the great deal even if it is on a new price point.
Orbitz still has the lower priced PHs, but they don't have APs.

I can not believe they will get they would get rid of the deluxe. Already frustrated I have to buy an annual pass to go once a year. i travel from Ontario Canada and with only a 5 day pass it is not worth it. Disneyland does not care about long distant travelers. It cost me over $800 to travel there.
