We are going to wdw in September and all this talk of a possible ticket price increase makes me want to book ASAP. The only thing I'm not sure about is we usually do FD. Now I know there is no guarantee it's going to be offered again but if I book now do I just call if/when it becomes available and have it applied?

yes, as long as there are still rooms at the resort you are booked for. From what I understand, there are only a certain number of rooms/packages per resort that offer the FD.

If you make any changes to your package, which would include applying FD, you would be subject to the ticket price increase (if there is one).

Is this a new policy? It has always been that the ticket and dining price hold to your booking date and the only additional charge is the change fee if the total decreases. What would be the incentive from Disney to book early if the pricing no longer holds? Although, nothing would surprise me anymore.

We are going in September as well and just booked today. I was not aware that adding FD would not give me the pricing that I made the reservation under

They don't just want you to book early - they want you to book early & not make any changes.

Booking early is really more about guests wanting peace of mind than about being a benefit to Disney. No other vacation destination on this planet has people clamoring to hand over their money at 499 days out.

Is their a cost for kids club?

This is not a new policy. If you book at one rate (rack for instance) and then switch to a promo, you are essentially changing your booking and will be charged the increased ticket price if there was one in the meantime. This happened to us a few years ago. Booked months in advance at rack with tickets and dining. A ticket increase went into affect after we booked and THEN a room discount came out. When I called regarding the discount the price was HIGHER than our original package because the ticket price went up (we were a party of 6). So these "discounts" that are released after a ticket increase aren't really discounts at all. If you are thinking of going, I would still book now and then see if any discounts released are better than what you originally booked. Or simply outright purchase tickets now to lock in the current prices and then book room-only. Free dining is complete speculation at this point and, given the current summer value meal promo, we may actually be seeing a big shift in what dining promos even look like.

Yeah I definitely advise buying tickets by themselves and then the room by itself, it makes things a lot easier

For some of us it does, but for those that depend on free dining, you MUST buy your tickets with your package unless you can save the necessary tickets for another trip.

Many packages including free dining packages require the purchase of tickets. The required minimum number of park days, if the actual number of days is chosen to be smaller than the number of room nights, has varied over the years and has been as small as two.

It is your choice whether to use older tickets or annual passes first and save the package tickets for the future.

Whatever number of park days you choose for your tickets, it is still much better to have only one ticket (new or old) supply all the days for any one vacation that is four or more days long.

... clamoring to hand over their money at X days out ...
Booking Disney vacations (or airline tickets for that matter) that early only makes sense if you think that the price will go up or the combination of features will cease to be offered soon.

If you are worried about ticket price increases then booking a room onky and separate tickets would be the way to go
But if you are depending upon the free dining then you are going to end up paying rack rate and the current ticket prices when n you book your package

I suspect I know the answer to this already but asking anyway in the search for detailed clarification (fleshing out every possibility)
...... If you booked a package that included resort, tix AND the dining package and then applied "Free Dining" promo, does it still count as a change in ressies to have the promo remove or cancel out the charge for the dining package?

Yes, it is a change to your reservation. If ticket prices went up, you will pay the new price. If your previous reservation included a room discount, you will pay the current rack rate. You are not "removing the dining package charge", you are booking an entirely new package.

That's what I figured. Thanks for confirming.
