If I buy my tickets from say Ticketmania, can I then have Disney put them on my room key at the resort when we arrive?

Yes as long as the CM knows how . We have APs and sorta like them being separate now that we are use to it.

If our Ap goes bad we can still charge and get into the room without having to get it fixed right away.

I'm trying to decide whether to add our tickets to our room key or not. What are the advantages and/or disadvantages?

Advantage is only carrying 1 card.

Dis advantage is if it goes bad then you have to get it replaced to use any of it's functions ( Room key, charging, park entrance).

Also remember if you keep it separate write down or photo the numbers on the back it makes it easier to get replaced if lost.

Many thing can demagnitise your your room keys. I have never had a problem but many others here on the DIS have reported many problems.

Everything from cellphones to other cards mag strip to the readers themselves could cause it.

Again no big deal as they can be easlie replaced but sometime you have to go back to the resort to get it done. This could mean no fastpasses until you get it taken care of as well as no room charging. If you have just your park tickets that could be replaced right there at GS in the park you are in so you could get the fastpasses.

I think the more times you handle the cards the better chance you have to demag them. So if Room/Charge are only used for that and Park is used just for entree and FP then you lesssen the risk of damage.,

Not to be a party pooper but according to Mythbusters, there is nothing the average consumer would ever come in contact with in general public to de-magnetize a card. They did many test using an incredibly high amount of gauss(magnetic reading) with a machine to get a card to not read properly. It leads me to believe that if there is a problem with any card it has some kind of defect when programmed or the strip was simply rubbed off to alter the reading. :stir: :)

That is interesting about the mythbusters. I asked the CM who was checking us in about this and he told me to keep it away from absolutely everything because the cards are very finicky. The biggest thing he said was to make sure to never put two cards back to back, you could put them front to back and that would be ok. To be on the safe side each of our cards got their own pouch in each or our bags, they never touched anything except the inside of the bag.

I agree to a point but I did work on some card readers a few years back when I had a bunch of college and Library machines.

It seemed that a lot depends on the card material and the mag strip.Thats why the softer tickets (tyvek) seem to hold better as they flex a bit. The rigid cards have no give and the strip gets damaged on the ends and rips (even though you can't see it. The wheels of the reader are also harder on the hard cards as well.

But they are magnetic and could get erased by static and magnets from cell phones because we played and tested them ourselves. But just like CDs some are better quiality them others and I think the cards are the same.

Disposables Like hotel and Disney cards are not the same standards as say a credit card or bank card.My cards fell in with the Disney cards and failed all the time.
