Hi,

Can someone confirm that Disney still will upgrade a MYW for an AP. If someone gets the 7 for 4 - Guest Relations will upgrade with extra money to an AP. With no problems?

Thanks. I'm advising someone and I just want to confirm this is correct.

Yes.

NOTICE:

If you upgrade to a 9-day NON-Expiring Ticket NOW (before you check in) you can save even MORE money,
because Disney will GIVE YOU the non-expiring rate on the 3 FREE DAYS of the package.

Then, after you arrive:

Be sure to USE the ticket to enter a theme park at least one time BEFORE you upgrade.

You can add any upgrade (extra days, water-parks, non-expire, Annual Pass) once you've started using it, even to a fully "used up" ticket, as long as it's within the first 14 days of its first use.

It can save you money to do so.

If you try to upgrade BEFORE you use it, you will be up-charged to the current gate-price for the ticket, plus the upgrade cost. Its because it is considered a TRADE-IN, if the ticket was never used.

Just go on into the park that first day.
When you are ready for a little break, stroll over to Guest Relations in that park and upgrade your ticket.

I was just going to ask a similar question. Here's mine.

I just returned from WDW last week. I had purchased a 4 day MYW ticket with hopper option. I used all four days, with the first date being February 28th. Since I'm already home, is it still possible to upgrade my MYW ticket to an annual pass or did that have to be done while I was there? I purchased my MYW at a local Disney Store and I still have the receipt they give you in case you lose your ticket. Could they upgrade it over the phone with any information that is on that receipt? I also still have the ticket. I just got a great deal on air fare and am planning another visit in June and I think it would make sense to upgrade to an annual pass if possible. Thanks.

Yes upgrading from afar has been done although the necessary logistics have differed over the years.

One way that has worked in the past is calling first to find out the cost plus shipping and the address to send to and then overnighting the ticket down to Disney to have the upgrade done.

One guest tells of having done it over the phone by giving Disney a credit card number (and the code numbers on the ticket) but this is only a rumor.

Disney hints: http://www.cockam.com/dispass.htm

Apparently no longer necessary since they've decided
to tell guests how many days are left on a ticket via the phone.
(See below.)

Yup. That seems to be how it's done now.

To check to see if older tickets still have "days left" on them
and to upgrade a used ticket within the 14-day window...

Call WDW at
(407) 566-4985

When the system answers-
Press "Option 2" when asked.
The CM can then check what's still on your ticket if you read her/him the numbers printed on it.

They are only open Mon-Sat.

I'm so glad you answered here. As I consider you the expert on these boards, can I run something by you?

Since I'm going again in June, I am planning on booking a package with the 4/3 deal. My son will be going on this trip and he has an annual pass that he wants to use once more before it expires. We are going on the 17th through the 24th. His AP expires on the 21st. I don't know if we will go in the parks everyday since he and I were just there last week. My daughter will also be joining us. I know when I book the package that we all have to get the same tickets. My son thinks I should upgrade my MYW ticket from last week to an AP (I need to decide quickly on this as it's already day 11) and just book the package with one day base tickets and then I can just upgrade my daughter's when I get there. He said he will be fine with the five days he can still use his AP plus the one day base ticket. Is that the best thing to do? I don't know how the upgrade would work with the 4/3 deal. Help!!

6- I don't know how the upgrade would work with the 4/3 deal. Help!!

1- OK.

2- This is fine if he does not want to go into the parks on June 23, 24 and 25.

3- Yes.

4- OK, that'll work... UNLESS you want to do what I describe in the SPECIAL NOTE below.

5- Overly-costly thing to do.
That one day in the park will cost $75.
Better to upgrade that 1-day to a more useful ticket (AP or a longer non-expiring.)

The "extra 3 days" on the package BASE tickets are only worth $3 per person for each day.
So, there's no big loss if you only buy a one-day base.

----SPECIAL NOTE-------------------------
BUT,
if you want to buy AP's for EVERYBODY (you, your DS, your DD) then you should
order (ON THE PACKAGE, before you arrive) NINE-DAY Non-Expiring MYW tickets.

THAT WAY, Disney will be "buying you" 3 non-expiring days on those tickets,
so they will make the AP's that you upgrade to... cost less in the final upgrade deal, after
you arrive.

Sorry, but you must do the math figuring all of the various angles.

This is one of those times when you do need the Algebra that you
said you'd never need after got out of school. ;)

I think you already got a very helpful answer by Robo. The best thing to do is call and ask. :thumbsup2

Robo, I have a scenario for you:

I bought two 4/3 tickets with park hoppers. I'm planning to upgrade to APs at the DVC price. Would it be possible to add the non-expiration option to just 7 days? Then I could pay a difference of $9 (technically $100 for the non-expiration upgrade and $9 to upgrade to APs) and have APs.

If I can do this, would I need to add the non-expiration option before I arrive on Saturday? Would I need to use one day of the ticket to get the full pricing benefit?

Thanks for your help!

You only HAVE 7 days on the ticket so far, so yes, you can add Non-expiring to these 7-day tickets.

Yes.

Would I need to use one day of the ticket to get the full pricing benefit?

Yes.

Specifically for definitely upgrading to DVC AP's the best ticket to order under the 4/3 plan is eight day non hopping with non-expiration. Its gate price (after a little usage) is almost exactly the DVC ($400?) AP price and the dollar savings over adding the non-expiration after arrival are slightly greater than for 7 day tickets.

Order something bigger and the gate price exceeds the cost of the AP. No change is returned.

Order 7 day (pay $233) hopping (pay $53) non-exp (pay $53) total paid for 4 days $339. gate value after usage $413.

Order 8 day (pay $236) non-exp (pay 75) total paid for 5 days $311. gate value after usage $400.

Without hopping you'll need to complete the AP upgrade before entering the second park of a hop day. Minor inconvenience.

Okay - I called WDW Ticketing today and this is what happened. The CM told me that she could not upgrade my 4 day MYW ticket to an AP over the phone. She said she could have upgraded over the phone to add more days and options, she just could not upgrade it to an AP as you need to show photo ID, etc. and that has to be done in person. HOWEVER, what she could do was open a guest services file for me which indicates my original MYW ticket number and that I have requested an upgrade to an AP and when I next visit the park, I am to go to guest services and give them the file number and they will be able to complete the upgrade. I did not have to give her a credit card number or anything. All that will be done when I visit the park.

Thanks for your help Robo and giving me the phone number. I hope it all works out when I go back in June!!

I must be thick headed or something, but I seriously cannot understand what I should do.
Booked on 4/3 deal MYW base
Want to upgrade all 4 tickets to Ap (2kids, 2 adults)
DVC discount.
I didn't know I had to add something to the tickets, I just knew I needed to use it before upgrading.
So I need to add non-expiring OR park hopping?:confused3
And are APs hoppers? I cannot figure out the answer on the wdw site.
If they aren't how do you make them hoppers?

I'm certainly not the ticket expert here, but I don't think you need to add anything to upgrade base tickets to an AP. I can tell you that you can "hop" with an annual pass (you do not have to add anything to an AP to make it a "hopper").

The one thing I do not understand is why posters here say to use the ticket before upgrading. That's where I start getting confused. Maybe someone can jump in here and explain that.

I have a headache from thinking about all this ticket upgrading. I think I have my AP upgrade issue figured out and now I just have to figure out what I am going to do with my daughter because I, too, booked the 4/3 deal with one day base tickets for myself, my son and my daughter. I think I am just going to let my son use my one day ticket as his AP will be expiring during our trip and he doesn't want to renew it and then his days will be taken care of for this trip with his AP and his and my one day base tickets. Then I just need to upgrade my daughter's ticket. Where's the Tylenol?!?!

Specific unique instructions peculiar to booking the 4/3 package and upgrading the whole family's package tickets to DVC discounted AP's, revisited.

Order tickets as eight day non-hopping with non-expiration.
After checking in, go to the park and enter.
Do the upgrade from the Guest Relations booth inside.
The additional money needed to do this upgrade is almost zero.
You can delay the upgrade a few days but no later than outside the second park if you chose to park hop and also no later than 14 days from first usage.

Annual passes all have the hopping privilege.

Magic Your Way tickets of any kind can be upgraded to AP all in one step, or may have underwent intermediate upgrades.

The above instructions will work for other purposes but may or may not be most cost effective for such other purposes.

For non-DVC members or for premium AP's, order nine day non-expiring tickets with or without hopping with the 4/3 package.

For DVC members wishing to take the AP renewal discount also, order seven day non-expiring tickets without hopping.

Another peculiarity -- Once the ticket gets some use, it is valued for upgrading purposes at gate price for that kind of ticket for example 8 day non-expiring. Prior to use it is valued for trade in purposes at roughly what you actually paid for it.

seashoreCM ~

I have a question for you. Like I mentioned above, if I only want to upgrade my daughter's one day MYW ticket that I had to get with the 4/3 deal into an 8 day MYW ticket with park hopper option only, when should I do the upgrade to get the best value?

Thanks,

Carol

Thank you!
I need to upgrade the tickets that I am getting to 8day nonexp before I get there.
Then I need to go to Guest Relations AFTER I get into the park on the first day.
If I am wrong, please tell me.
And I already took my Tylenol - extra strength.:scared:

The one thing I do not understand is why posters here say to use the ticket before upgrading. That's where I start getting confused. Maybe someone can jump in here and explain that.
First of all, that advice applies only to tickets bought at some sort of legitimate discount price. If the tickets were just usual tickets bought through Disney, then there's no advantage to waiting to upgrade.

But now to your answer ...

I'll make up dollar amounts here, just to make it easy to understand.

Let's say you buy a 7-day ticket from an authorized reseller for $200. Let's say Disney sells that same ticket for $225. Now, let's say you want to add a day to that ticket, to make it an 8-day ticket. The only way to add a day is to do it through Disney itself. So let's say Disney's price for an 8-day ticket is $228.

So you take your unused discount ticket to Disney to add a day. Disney will know (from the info accessed via the magnetic strip on the back of the ticket) that you paid $200 for that ticket. And they know that they charge $228 for an 8-day ticket ... so to add that 8th day they will charge you $28.

HOWEVER, for some reason unknown to mortal men and women, once a discounted ticket is used, Disney is unable to find out that you bought it at a discount. So after you use the ticket at least once, THEN go to a Disney ticket booth to add that 8th day. When they swipe the ticket, it will look to them as if you paid $225 for the ticket (the Disney price) rather than the discounted price you really paid. You will be charged $3 to add that 8th day.

Make sense???
