Asking for a family member. They purchased 2 day tickets for two people last summer intending to go in September 2021. However the trip was delayed due to covid so now they plan to go in July 2022.

The tickets are still valid (not expired) but they no longer want to go for 2 days. Is it possible to "return" the tix for credit and buy 1 day tix with the credits (and pay any difference in cost)? They would prefer to do 4 one day tickets (for the two of them and two of their adult children who don't have tix yet). I know they cant transfer tix but I didn't know if there was a way to convert the value into something else. I know it will be more $ for 4 one day tix but its cheaper than not using one day of their 2 day tix.

It's probably all possible but highly likely it would need to be done on site at a ticket booth or guest services. They can try and call, and explain their situation and I would think the CM would be able to provide direction in how to go about it and what constraints and/or possibilities they have. I think a number of variables come into play and it's easier to make changes when your onsite.

They may be able to do it at the ticket booth only but I found calling gave me different answers each time I called. I had expired tickets and was told ticket booth only twice. I managed to get a third CM who knew how I could fix it without being in Anaheim. The issue of course is that by the time you get to the ticket booth, reservations are gone for that day. If they are in Southern California I would send them to the ticket booth, if not I say call and if they don't get an answer that want, hang up call again.

While I have heard that in some cases with perseverance on the part of the ticket holder Disney has been processing ticket returns, most reports I have heard have been that they are doing so only for when a customer wants to upgrade tickets to a more expensive ticket option. The customer is asked to purchase the more expensive ticket first and then once that transaction goes through, the CM will process the refund for the tickets that are being replaced. Even if 4 one-day tickets turn out to be more expensive than 2 two-day tickets, Disney may not be willing to do the refund due to their rigidity and seeming insistence that refund exceptions are being made for ticket upgrades. In any case, they may as well call and try. Other than the lost time, the worst outcome is that they are told no.

In the past, upgrades were only possible if the individual ticket was being traded for an individual ticket of greater value. It wouldn't matter that the total cost of 4 new tickets is greater than the original purchase. (Hope that makes sense). Additionally, the reservation system has made changes at the ticket booth virtually impossible. Disneyland just can't make it easy, unfortunately.

Give how much time the buyer would spend trying to get through to a CM who could make changes (if one can even be found - they have been directing people to make changes at the ticketbooth), it is likely more cost effective to simply buy 2 more 1day tickets and just use a single day of their existing 2 day. Since you need to make reservations in advance, unless you are staying at an onsite hotel, it just doesn't make sense to try to work through the changes at the ticketbooth, as you risk losing any existing reservations.

But there is a 3rd option - buy 2day hoppers for the other two adults joining them and enjoy twice as much fun! It'll take less time, and the cost will probably work out similar anyway!
