I subbed for the Deaf students today and will all week. At the bus ramp one of the other teachers came up and yelled at one of my kids for making noises. Told him he was a bad kid. He's not a bad kid but he can't hear himself when he voices. It isn't unusual for a deaf child to make noises like this.
It makes me so mad that this person has no understanding of deafness but takes it on herself to put the child down by yelling at him about something he can't even hear.

I agree, that is completely unacceptable behavior from a Professional Educator.

I hope that you reported her and that she will be required to take some kind of training on how to appropriately interact with Children who have disabilities.

I sounds like she needs it.

:(

I hope you straighten her out. I never tell my students they are bad. I might say I don't like the choices you are making right now etc.

NO child is bad, children might make poor or even bad choices, but a child is not bad!

No I didn't straighten her out as she is known to be vindictive.
I did tell the boy he is not bad but the noise was bothering the hearing people and to try to be more quiet.
