Tick - tock - tick - tock

Free dining is a much better savings for us than any other deal, so I am hoping for that. The 4/3 is only good if you are actually staying for 7 or 14 days. We would be paying for 8 days and getting 3 days free for our 11 night stay. Not that great a deal.

I really hope everyone can get what works best for them :goodvibes, but I know that is technically impossible. They are not going to offer it all at one time.

How did you get an upgrade for your resort?

It has nothing to do with the Year of a Million Dreams, Disney 'walks/upgrades' guests who are normally in Preferred rooms (usually thats the area of Values resorts and/or Mods for the guests chosen) to have gotten the upgrade to SSR last year....and it happens at certain times of the year ....

Actually those upgrades were sent out because Disney had overbooked the value resorts during free dining. Until this past winter, all levels of resorts got the basic DDP for free with this promotion making it an amazing deal at values. This is why Disney started doing different levels of deals at the different levels of resorts (5/2 at values vs 4/3 at mods & deluxes, QSDP at values vs DDP at mods & deluxes). They're trying to balance how many people book at each level in order to not have to give free upgrades again. This is why I believe the free dining deal that we're all sitting here waiting for will be QSDP at values and DDP at mods & deluxes.

Pardon me but no thats not true, my good friend was at POP and I know that it wasn't overbooked, and there was availability all of September so you might not want to be so 'matter of fact' with your 'facts' there are always different reasons for guests being upgraded. :wizard:

There are different definitions to "overbooked". It doesn't necessarily mean that the resort was completely full and then some. It could mean that the availability of FD rooms was overbooked as each resort has a limit.
But you are right, there are different reasons for upgrading guests. However, some guests were actually told by CMs about the FD being overbooked at certain resorts, hence the upgrade.

Yes its great when it happens, and trust me, I know, I"ve been a CM for a long time and I know that overbooking isn't the ONLY reason guests get upgraded, its for a lot of different reasons :wizard:

Well, I am sure that it won't happen to us, although I would be beyond excited! I am just happy to be going to WDW as it is. Thanks for the info. So interesting!

I don't really think I would want a free upgrade. I do a lot of research and planning around the resort we are staying at. Like this trip we have a carriage ride planned at PoR, because we are staying at PoFQ. I wouldn't want to have to travel over there from SSR just for a carriage ride.

You're very welcome :) and I understand what you're saying, it would be great if it happens to anyone but even if it doesn't, then its still amazing to be at WDW no matter where you are at on property ~ enjoy your stay at WDW :wizard:

This is true, however, when most guests hear 'overbooked' they misunderstand and think there is no availability....which in that case, the resort is not 'to capacity' And yes each resort does have limited number of rooms allocated for FD .....

Yes there are all sorts of reasons why upgrades happen. We read about upgrades all the time on DIS. Most of them are individual situations with CMs offering pixie dust or some kind of problem resolution or one of a hundred other different reasons.

The thing is, when mass upgrades happen, it means Disney is trying to free up rooms. The way CMs explained it last year was that there was no availability to book at value resorts so lots of people weren't booking because they couldn't affort higher end resorts. In order to free up availability, Disney upgraded people who had already booked so that more people could book at the value resorts. In the end, they may not have filled up the values again but they did upgrade people because they wanted more people to book and they knew that people would be more likely to book at the values and get free dining rather than deluxes which were underbooked. They basically rewarded some early bookers in order for them to make more money.

Disney is a business and is not likely to do thing that don't benefit them.
