I am actually a bit hesitant to post this. This last trip I visited the Tibet-Butler Preserve. This is a park located on Vineland Rd (SR535). If you are adventurous and have checked out some of the back roads of Disney, it is about 3 to 3.5 miles north of where Vista Blvd meets 535.
This is an mazing little park. They have nature trails - a good couple of miles of them, it seems. There is a boardwalk through a swamp, as well as sand paths through the various types of habitats Central Florida offers. There are a lot of birds and fairly decent amount of wildlife, although too many noisy groups do tend to cause them to hide. There is also a nice covered pavilion through a hammock overlooking a small pond adjacent to Lake Tibet-Butler. The park offers a small interpretation area with some decent exhibits, and guides as well. It also looks like they hold various programs as well.
The one big problem is that due to funding issues, they are open only Wednesday through Sunday. and that is my hesitation - this is a great break from the bustle of Disney, as well as a good chance to bring the kids (and adults) out to see the real, umanicured florida. But too many people might overwhelm such a small underfunded park. So take advantage of it now while it is still quiet!
