Good Luck !!!!

Hi everyone! I am sorry it has taken so long to come back. I started a new job. I had the surgery on the 17th to have the left side of my thyroid and the tumor removed and it went fine. The Dr. Said the tumor was the size of his fist!:scared: I was back to work in two days and no loss of voice at all. In fact my voice sounds better now! I had to wait for 5 days for my results, which was not fun!! The tumor was benign:yay:. I have to go back in one year for a scan on the right side but, that is it for now. No drugs, which I am excited about! I just want to say thanks and God Bless all of you. You really helped ease my mind!! :grouphug:

Thats great news! I just found this thread but I am going through exactly the same thing. i have a specialist appointment on Easter Monday. I have lots of nodules and I got the largest one biopsied 4 years ago and was clear. It has grown again so am waiting to see what the next step is. I can't imagine them leaving it on there as it is getting quite large.

Your happy story does settle my nerves a bit on this one.

Hi all!

I had an ultrasound done in June and because of a mix up with the results not being sent to my Dr I never heard back until I asked at my Sept appt. I had figured no news was good news but I guess not always. So glad I asked. Please everyone be your own best advocate, ask questions, be informed and never just assume no news is always good news.

They found nodules on both my left & right lobes. I had the largest one biopsied in Oct. The results were inconclusive so I had to have the right side of my thyroid removed this past December. I spent 1 day in the hospital and then was home for 2 weeks. The surgery was not too bad for me. I was able to talk right off and eat (although swallowing hurt a little).

Two weeks later I got the final biopsy results. Everything was benign :yay: I just had my post op blood work done and I don't need to take any synthroid. I have to have yearly check ups to make sure the nodules on the left aren't growing.

The Dr.s swear that a benign nodule on 1 lobe had nothing to do with the syptoms I was seeing my GP for before surgery but I have never felt better! I was in a "brain fog", was tired all the time, headaches, and other symptoms but now I feel great!

Want to let everyone know that there is a Thyroid thread on the JUST FOR FUN area of Disboards. It is in the coping and compassion section. The people there have done their homework about thyroid conditions and are willing to answer questions or point you in the right direction. It is very informative.

I had thyroid cancer and my thyroidectomy 13 and a half years ago. No radiation or chemo for me. I also had lymph nodes and half of my parathyroid nodes removed. the other half of my parathyroids were transplanted. I also had tissue scraped from my chest. I woke up sore (mainly in the chest area). I was in the hospital a few days and then released. My voice was a little hoarse for the first week, but then back to normal. I take thyroxyl.

I used to be very self-conscious of my scar. Then one day my boyfriend (now dh) told me I shouldn't always try to hide my scar. He said I should show it off. I almost fell over. The reason he gave is that I should be proud of the struggle I went through and how I handled it. It is part of what made me who I am today. I LOVE HIM! Ever since that day I no longer hide my scar. :)

It is so comforting to find this thread. I just had a biopsy done and the doctors had difficulty getting enough tissue to make a clear diagnosis, even after getting 2 procedures. Preliminary diagnosis is something she called neoplasm, which I believe is a medical term for tumor. She informed me that it has a 20% chance of being cancerous. If it is found to be neoplasm, they are going to perform surgery to remove the left side of my thyroid and then test it to see if it is cancerous. If they still are unable to reach a diagnosis from my biopsy, I will have to have another biopsy in a few months. I should find out more info. on Monday...Monday can't come soon enough!

I had a similar situation also- I had the R side and middle section of my thyroid removed in 2002, due to suspicious cell growth. Biopsy came back as pre cancerous. I f/u every year with ultrasound and blood work. I do not have to take synthroid.

My symptoms were difficulties swallowing and goiter.
